Peter,

I did that often with my father... we would drive to Pascagoula, Mississippi to pick up my uncle, and from there drive straight up to Lorain, Ohio to visit the rest of their siblings (my aunts and uncles)... This was a non-stop trip, well, only for gas and to grab a bite...

Only once did we stop to visit the Corvette museum...

Photo is of my Dad (driver seat) and uncle (passenger seat)... how I miss those days... they are both gone now ... Uncle Frank would wait for us with a blue crab, shrimp, and potatoes boil (Old Bay, garlic, parsley, and cilantro)... We would be eating until 2am...

In reference to epic long day driving trips:

We were all young, foolish, and a bit crazy once upon a time.

Now I fear we are all just no longer young...

Glad you have the pics and good memories.

I wonder if the corvette pictured survived the Museum's sink-hole? They managed to pull a few out of the hole and planned to restore them.

Try 760 miles in one day (= our current record). Now THAT is not pleasant.

We routinely do 700+ miles per day due to the time constraints of our jobs. It takes two drivers and a great deal of patience. And nerves of steel.

Yes, but my 428 miles were with just one driver: me. And I am pushing 86 years old.

"Tripadvisor" local searches are great idea generators

We like Roadtrippers because it shows you all the interesting sights and things to experience along your trip. I find it a reason to stop frequently and take in the quirky and the inspiring things that I would have otherwise just driven past. Our objective is to enjoy the trip as much as the destination. My general rule is that if we do more than 300 miles in a day, we have probably missed a number of great experiences along the way.

Roadtrippers (https://roadtrippers.com/) . Very cool! That is what I was looking for instead of having to do TripAdvisor or multiple google searches. Thank you!

Looking forward to your own “reality check” after this trip. Lots of conflicting priorities . . . IMO . . . will be interesting to hear if the long drive of ~2500 miles RT in 7 days was rewarding in your opinion.

No worries... lots of topics being discussed in this thread... this trip is clear... one destination, Missouri... anything to get there quickly... the daydreaming part is over thanks to you all grounding me on reality.

I already told Mara to forget about stopping often if we want to make it to the chapel and have time for her to enjoy it... I will probably be sleeping in the RV while she is out and about, hahahahahahah

For future trips, lots of tools/apps to plan a better route with places to visit along the way and, hopefully, enough time to enjoy them...

I mean... how bad can it be? Right? I have done over 1K miles on a motorcycle... what is 2,500 miles in an AI??? - Famous last words
