Replacement Windshield

I know this is a long shot.

Any one know of a good Windshield replacement shop in the Portland, Oregon area? within say 180 miles?

Thanks in advance

MAKE SURE that whoever you hire sets the new windshield in the frame properly using appropriate preparation and materials. If they do a poor job, you'll run the risk of having frame corrosion.

Research threads on Sprinter Forum. There are some windshield horror stories on there.

What are you finding for the price difference between heated and non-heated windshield? We don't use the AI in the winter and would not pay much more for a heated one if we need a replacement.

You should verify that the installer has a windshield that will work with your van. When I had mine replaced (2014 Sprinter), I arrived for my appointment to find that the 3rd party windshield he'd ordered wouldn't work because the 2014 has rain sensors. I had to wait 2 weeks for an OEM windshield to be shipped from Germany.

Maybe the situation is better now than 1 year ago when mine was done.

From everything I've read on the Sprinter-Forum the only suitable replacement is the same OEM windshield installed by Mercedes. Anything less and you will have problems with mirror mount, rain sensor and loss of windshield heating. I'm counting the days when I'll probably have to replace mine as I have several souvenirs from trips to Alaska and Colorado.

I just had a rock chip repair done in Pooler, Ga at a Safelite shop to prevent the spread of a chip acquired in Texas. Chip repair can help prevent the spread of a resulting crack. Texas gravel trucks all seem to have signs on them saying "Keep 200 feet back, not responsible for damage" but then they pass you and change lanes back in front of you. That's how mine happened.

I chose Safelite because I am on the road and they are a national chain. I've had prior good service from them at home.

Lineolated: What was the price of the 3rd party windshield vs the Mercedes? I am envisioning multi-thousand $ for Mercedes vs multi- hundred $ for 3rd party. If I am envisioning correctly I question the value of maintaining the Mercedes bells and whistles. But with the complexity of the Mercedes electronics and CAN BUS, it might go into limp-home mode if the windshield heater does not work?!?!
Thanks

I have a 12 inch crack in my AI and my regular car at the same time!!! Fortunately my insurance covers both with a $100 deductible.

I had the fancy windshield in my regular car (Landrover) replaced with the real deal and it was close to $2,000 all done I think. The glass alone was something like $1,000.

I have not yet decided where to take mine. The last place I took it did something wrong and I had a whistle at 70 mph. After multiple visits, it fixed itself!

2016 Interstate Windshield

I do have a quote now for the windshield replacement here in Portland.
$1200.00 (incl rain sensor and heat) Factory unit installed by a Sprinter dedicated tech. Now my insurance carrier is chewing on that... we'll see

Mine was about $1100 for the OEM. Sorry, I don't recall the price for the Chinese model.
