Recall on Airstream Interstates

In case you didn't already receive a notice from Airstream, there's been a recall on Interstates. Has something to do with the propane regulator. Regulator needs to be replaced.

I just got my notice in the mail on Saturday. So, keep an eye out for yours, or call your dealer to ask about it. The letter did not mention that this was for any particular years. Just said "Airstream Interstates."

Mine came through the mail, so those traveling may not have received it yet. Here are the details:

Report Receipt Date: DEC 18, 2013
NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V632000
Component(s): UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Potential Number of Units Affected: 552

Manufacturer: Airstream, Inc.

SUMMARY:
Airstream, Inc. (Airstream) is recalling 2013-2014 Airstream Interstate recereational vehicles manufactured August 2012 through October 2013. In the affected vehicles, the installation of the propane tank and the regulator may damage the regulator, allowing propane to escape out of the safety release vent if it experiences an over pressurized condition.

CONSEQUENCE:
If the vehicle is parked in an enclosed storage area, in the presence of an ignition source, the escaping propane can collect and potentially cause a fire and or explosion to occur.

REMEDY:
Airstream will notify owners, and dealers will replace the regulator on the propane tank, free of charge. The recall in expected to begin by early February 2014. Owners may contact the Airstream Warranty/Service Department by phone at 1-937-596-6111.

NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

My dealer called and told me they are waiting for parts the same day I got the recall notice in the mail. Supposedly parts are due this coming week.

Does anyone happen to know to change the regulator if it requires propane to be purged? Trying to decide if I need to time this in between propane fill ups.

Brian...no it does not need to be purged. The dealer just replaced my regulator, and purging was not required.

BTW. I got lucky with my regulator work. The dealer had already ordered the parts for mine....I was going in to have a battery temperature probe installed when he told me he had the parts. I had not heard anything from Airstream yet, so kudos for my service manager.
