Rear View Camera - Turn on Hazard and rear view flashes on and off.
On our way home from picking up our 2016 Grand Tour we hit a stretch of nasty rain on the I-85. Traffic was down to 35mph and all had on their Hazard flashers.
Pressed our switch for Hazard and found the rear view camera came on, but only for a few seconds, then off, then back on, etc. As long as the Hazard switch was activated this occurred and did not go away no mater how long or short of a period I had the Hazard switch activated.
Was entertaining, in some ways but with the severe rain I didn't need the distraction from what the drivers around me were doing.
Solution, other than return to dealer?

Before you noticed this problem, did the camera only come on in Reverse?

Yes. At no other time.
I experimented with this effect. Testing if it was time dependent, etc. but there was no correlation other than turning on the Hazard switch.
The key is that the camera came on for a few seconds of varying time lengths. Would alternate between being on and not on even thought the Hazard switch as left on.

Sounds as if AS connected the power to the lighting circuit instead of an ignition On circuit. At least that's the way mine works.

It sounds like AIRSTREAM connected the camera to the wrong wire in or at the rear taillight. You can try checking the wiring on the rear driver side taillight; I recently installed LED lights as marker lights over the rear tires and wired them so that the lights would come on when I put the vehicle into Reverse. I found that AIRSTREAM tapped the Reverse Light wiring on my Interstate at this location for the rear view camera; I used their same wiring to energized the relay that I installed to activate and power my Reverse Marker Lights.
Removing the taillight will require a T25 torx screwdriver, once all the screws are removed, you want to pull the tail light straight out towards the rear direction in order to disengage the plastic tabs. Don't force the light out by pushing it outward to the side, this will break off the plastic tabs. Perhaps the wiring is coming into contact with the hazard lights??
Just an idea to start at; assuming that the camera does work correctly when put into Reverse??

Scott, thanks for your post. Knowing how I have demonstrated numerous times that "if I can screw it up, I will", and reading your cautions on removing the Mercedes tail light, I'm heading to the factory. I can just imagine the cost to replace a tail light after I break off the tabs!
I have to be in Cleveland, OH on July 27th and 28th. I'll call AS today and see if we can plan a tour of the factory AND have them, not a dealer, address the Hazard/Camera problem!

My rear view camera is powered by the license plate light, so I travel headlights on to power the camera. I wonder what will happen if I turn on the 4-way flashers.

You don't really have to plan a factory tour- just show up after lunch in the service center customer lounge.
You will, however, have to schedule a service center appointment.

Tail lights, tag light-
It's the same circuit, right?
The tag light was just easier to get to. The camera is mounted on the license plate bracket.

What model year did they move it from the roof to the license plate light bracket?

Mine is not factory installed. I put it where I would have to cut/drill no holes in the aluminum skin.

Just got off the phone with AS Support - very pleasant chap BUT he has never heard of the problem I'm having. Thus, I have to be in Cleveland for an apt. on Monday, July 27th. I'm making an apt. with the service center to let them look at the rig on the 28th. Will also have them do the generator's first oil change for me at the same time.
And I'm looking forward to do a factory tour at the same time - hopefully I can get a good shot of how the Interstates are put together.

Michael the thread is about the Sprinter Grand Tour. Not sure they setup the built in cameras on the vans the same way as adding a Voyager on a trailer.
