Rear AC receptacle only works on shore power

We have a 2013 AI EXT. lounge version. I can't get the rear AC receptacle to work unless we are plugged in. Is that how its supposed to work?

Which rear AC outlet? Some outlets are designed to work that way (not function via the inverter).

When you say 'only shore power' does that mean it does not function off of the generator?

If it does not work off of the generator you have a problem some where.

Other than that, it is probably functioning as normal.

On my 2013, I believe that the only outlets that work off of the inverter are
- the over cab outlet (TV signal boost)
- the one behind the drivers seat
- the rear TV

All of the van outlets work on generator or shore power.

In my ride, the outlet behind the drivers seat is a GFI outlet and controls some of the other outlets in the van. You might want to check to see if it is tripped. It may solve your problem.

Your layouts may be different even tho we have the same model year; it seems that the airstream crew lacks build consistency, especially when it comes to electrical.

Ooops. Just noticed you have a '13. Mine is a '12. The above should still be applicable tho.

I think you can get that socket working along with some others if you turn on the inverter.

My 2013 AI works as kaylorsan described. There is a fourth outlet powered by inverter under sink inside the galley cabinet. This is the one that Airstream uses for the refrigerator AC power for some strange reason. If you have an outlet not working check the ground fault as mentioned.

kaylorsan description is correct. The rear outlet down by the floor on the right side just in front of the couch is only on shore power OR generator just like the outside outlet.

I'm either dumb or blind or both, but is there an cig lighter accessory plug at the rear of the AI? There was in the AS trailer, but I just can't find one in the Interstate.

There's one on the psgr side rear corner next to the 110V receptacle.

Also one in the compartment over the driver by the TV antenna connection.

There's also one below the ashtray/cupholder near the floor that I didn't find right away. It is always powered whereas the ashtray one isn't.

My 2012 ext-lounge model only had the one 12v outlet in compartment above driver. I added two at end of galley and two below the rear curbside TV. It reAlly helps to have those extra 12v outlets in rear area.

What do you use all of them for? Just curious.

I'm not with my Sprinter now, but I believe there is also a 12v outlet on the base of the driver seat (right side or front right) underneath the 'decorative flap' installed by Airstream.

Yes that's right driver seat base toward the isle. You have to lift the skirt.

Shark,
I went to pep boys and bought a 3x1 12v receptacle. We charge our phones and my android pad with it. If you haven't got it, yet the "gas buddy" app has a listing of all the diesel availability by location and the price at each. You have to be careful of biodiesel though as its sucks you in with a lower price but my Mercedes dealers advises (& protag) advises to stay away from it.

I use small 12v to 110v inverters that plug into the cigar (accessory) receptacle. These allow me to power 110 v stuff when disconnected from shore power and driving or charge via USB when on shore power. I can also run my 110v laptop via the inverter when driving (not me! Stephanie.)

I always keep a few 12v-110v inverters in the gadget bag. I find them extremely versatile.

We use them to charge our three mobile devices when camping or at night. When driving we use any of the three 12v outlets in the Sprinter cab area.

We also have a small 12v crockpot and a small 75 watt inverter that plugs into 12v outlets. This small inverter s great for charging the laptop, camera batteries, shaver and electric tooth brush when dry camping. Not having to power the inverter for small loads saves some power.

The Gas Buddy app was one of the first ones along w/ the Propane Refill Station Locator app that I got after the AI.

My MB dealer and salesman also cautioned against bio diesel. I did have to use a few gallons of 5% once due to availability and a close to empty tank. No ill effects noted but now start looking as soon as the "Low Fuel" lite comes on which is at ~1/4 tank.
