Random message on Onan Generator

Hello everyone. Was at high elevation on top of Mt. Baker yesterday trying to start the generator. As the starter was going, it would briefly flash something on the LCD and then switch back to hours. It was very hard to pick up what it was as it would display this for a fraction of a second. I think one time I saw "bulb" and another time I thought it was "811.6" or some such thing. The generator started and ran fine.

Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same message show up. It was only up or a fraction of a second and kept repeating. The circumstances were different. I am having a issue that about a third of the time whenever I start my generator, it would crank two or so times and then the cranking would be arrested. If I waited about five seconds and did it again it most times would keep cranking until it started.

I called Cummins Onan and spoke to a tech, At the time I did not see or realize a split second code came up. I told him about the arrested starting. He said it probably was the board. I have an appointment in a few weeks with Cummins in South Florida to get it checked out and will ask him about the code. It was flashing for such a small period of time I wound up taking a video of it on my IPhone. It was the only way I could capture it and read it. When I have more I will post.

That's exactly it. Love to learn what the actual message is.

Boy, it is impossible to find the manual for the remote control and its codes. Found the part number, 028-00022, but no manual.

I am thinking that this error is low voltage as my batteries were down from overnight use. As the starter was running, the voltage was fluctuating causing the error to flash on and off.

Don't know if your owner's manual covers fault codes but I found one Onan manual online that does, so you might check there if all else fails.

I was inspecting one for a friend looking to buy one and couldn't believe how much quieter the new generator is.

I have looked through every manual I can find but none have such LCD codes in them.

Don't believe it is low voltage. My batteries were fully charged. Also not high altitude since I am at sea level on the coast of Florida
