Question about heat

When I turn on heat, the propane heater comes on(the one below the micro) but so does the overhead a/c unit. Is that normal operation? I would think not and my thought is the thermostat on the wall must be defective.

It sounds like the thermostat is miswired.

I would not think that it would ever be wired to have both the propane and the heat strip on at the same time.

If they are both controlled by the same thermostat I would think there is a selection switch to set one or the other as being on.

The other option is your AC heat strip may be controlled on the AC itself. Older ACs worked this way.

Mine did the same thing. I thought the thermostat had gone bad, I bought a new one. It worked for a while then did the same thing. I called the manufacture (Dometic) technical support and they walked me through resetting and synchronizing it to the compressor unit, it works perfectly now. Best of luck!

Ours did that too. If you go to the last page of the Dometic owners manual, it tells you how to reset the thermostat. That fixes it. All it takes is someone pressing keys somewhat randomly to mess it up. We were on the road when it happened and had to look the manual up on line. Good luck!

Thermostat needs to be reset. Look in your manual. It has to do with the fan settings.

All is good

Heat is working properly after easy reset. Hold mode and zone buttons simultaneously when unit is in off position, screen reads IniT, release buttons then press on button and all is good.
It is starting to get cold in this area.

We experienced the same thing the first time we used our heater. I found that by switching the fan option to Auto, the blower stopped as well!

For 2017 AI owners, the instructions state that the thermostat fan must be set to Auto to avoid having the rooftop AC fan run during heating. I tried it and it works as described.

This is the answer, as confirmed to me by a Dometic dealer. I think I finally found it buried in the manual too. If the fan is set to low medium or high, it will come on with the furnace. If it's on auto it won't.

I suspect the thermostat reset, among other things, sets it to a default mode of auto.

Owners manuals are wonderful things, but only if read.

But they can certainly be made more readable.
