Please help

Somehow, since this morning our AC has stopped working. We had it on in the morning, drove about 100 miles and plugged into another park. Now it will not come on and the thermostat says it is 34 degrees in here which is not true. We tried a thermostat reset, but that did not work. Thank you all for any help.

Have you checked the input voltage?

Your alternating current electric input. It should be 114 to 120 volts. Low voltage can be harmful to the AC unit and it may not start at all.

Does the thermostat have °F/°C settings? Because 34°C is about 93°F, so the thermostat could very well be correct if it's set on Celsius.

Also, go out to the service pedestal and feel the 30-amp plug. If it feels hot to the touch, that means that your shore power plug is not making good contact and it's actually arcing inside the socket. If there is a 50-amp socket— and if you have a 50-amp to 30-amp adapter— you can try plugging into the 50-amp socket, which is never as badly worn as the 30-amp socket due to being used less often. I've had to do that several times, usually but not always at State or National Parks.

Apologies for two posts back-to-back, but when you are running the generator, you only have 20 amps available, not 30 amps, so you have to shut off everything else that uses 120vAC in order to start the air conditioner. While running it uses 15 amps, but while starting up it uses nearly the full 20 amps. Your Energy Management System (EMS) has a load-shedding routine that shuts off loads in a specific sequence if the load exceeds the power available, and the air conditioner is the first load to be shed. So if you have too many other 120vAC users running, the A/C won't even start; the EMS prevents it.

You're sure it is not the thermostat?

I turn my AC on manually, the thermostat doesn't regulate it.

Thanks everyone. We found an RV repair shop with a Dometic dealer. He seems to think it's the thermostat. Unfortunately, they don't have any in stock. A lot of places are closed for the weekend, so we're heading to our family reunion a week early so we can drop off the 18 cases of wine we have onboard.

Miracle of miracles! We stayed in a hotel last night near a Camping World where we hoped to get some help in the morning with our AC. When we looked at the inside temperature this morning, it no longer read 32 degrees. It must have somehow reset itself. Maybe it had to reboot itself or something. We drove over to a KOA, plugged in, and had success! Then, we tried using the AC with the generator, and that worked too. We are going to stop for the day early, plug in for the night, and make sure everything is ok before heading to SC. Once again, we sure appreciate all your help.

I had mine freeze up a couple of times this year, simply from running it on low at its coldest setting.....an apparent no-no. It wouldn't run again, then, until it was good and ready.

Might touch base with someone re your thermostat, and be sure there isn't something going on that can be headed off by a quick repair, replacement, or words of advice,

You're going to want that AC in South Carolina.
