Barefoot Camp
I just returned from checking out a campground at Bend, TX for a rally we are having 3rd week in March ... right during bluebonnet time. We have close to 40 Airstreams coming. Mine will probably be the only Interstate.
The RV park is on a working cattle ranch, and is a beautiful place in a U-bend of the Colorado River. Bend, TX is a huge city as can be seen by the aerial view and the tongue-in-cheek photo of the city hall.

Very cool! I call those "blue bellies". As opposed to their cousins the "cherry bellies", another less common entry into the T1N Interstate livery.

Social Distancing In Brown County State Park
https://www.airforums.com/forums/att...1&d=1586189833
Needing a quick & easy get-away my wife & I took a 2 hour drive to this state park (largest in Indiana ~ 15K acres) for some outdoor time. Beautiful park with some incredible views. We did discover when exiting that Class B or larger rigs need/must use the West Entrance/Exit...the alternative North Entrance/Exit has a covered bridge with a 9' height restriction...live & learn.
BTW this spot we choose (Taylor Ridge #336) was excellent!

It has been a while since I've posted an Interstate pic on this thread, so here is one that is certainly a sign of the times. My new magnetic signs came in.
I am a self-employed environmental health and safety professional and I've always used our Interstate as my private mobile office for some of the work I do. Now that use is more critical than ever. That is part of my motivation for having these signs made - some of my clients are only allowing contractors into their parking lots after careful risk screening. Industry is receptive to this approach. I can visit and work without making the kind of direct contact that the next contractor would, who shows up in a car instead and must sit at their conference table, use their restroom, etc.

I own two apartment buildings, one of them 300 miles from home. Nearly twenty years ago I put a 30amp RV box on the back of the building, and I've stayed there in veritable parade of RVs over the years as MY portable motel room, restaurant, and tool room. I haven't been up to the building since January. I try to make it up every couple of months to clean, vacuum the stairwells, and turn screws as needed. So we got some good weather this week and I headed up and enjoyed an 82* day, a light breeze, and partly-cloudy sky while I worked on Wednesday. Got home again last night.

You picked a good day for that photo op. During normal times, campus police will put the boot in your butt for even briefly stopping there, even on a Sunday morning with no traffic or people around. Ask me how I know this.

Newbie Here - my new van
Hi everyone,
Thank you for having me here! I'm leaving Monday to drive from Olympia, WA to Orange County, CA to inspect and (hopefully) purchase my next van! I'll post a pic here taken for the ad, and later I'll add one from my travels.
This sweet baby is a 2004 (avoiding the EGR debacle) 22' with only 105k miles! I feel so lucky - like I'm in a dream.
I toured with my band for years in a 1982 VW Vanagon Westy conversion with a Jetta diesel engine, and I've owned (and even lived in!) 1981-3 Mercedes diesel W123 sedans and wagons, all of which I've run on veggie oil.
I'm currently driving a 1983 gasser Vanagon that I adore, but this Interstate 22' is beyond any dream I could have imagined! Who knew such a thing existed?!? A tight little 2.7L Mercedes 5 cyl turbo diesel in a 22 ft Dodge Sprinter Van with an Airstream camper package?? Give me a brake! This will be the newest vehicle I've ever owned and definitely the nicest. I'll never be able to buy a house in a nice area so I may as well live wherever I want, right? I make movies and this is a perfect set up to go on location, chase storms, document climate change, etc.
I'll let you know what happens and if everything goes thru. I'm sure I'll be on here asking advice a lot and sharing my adventure. I miss being on the diesel Vanagon forums, but there's no reason anymore. Looking forward to getting to know you all now!

85MH325,
Yay! You have the same year and model I'm going to look at on Monday! But yours has bot of the fold down sofas to make the queen bed! Mine was somehow converted to two chairs and a table on the curbside. I hope I can find a replacement sofa! Yours is beautiful!

Hi Bluey02004
That's a beautiful ride! I'm getting a 2004 next week and am on pins and needles!
I think when you created your profile you accidentally chose "2004 22' International" under the travel trailer category instead of a "2004 22' Interstate" which is the motor coach you are showing here : )

Don't mean to dampen your enthusiasm, but just don't let it get you into a "gotta have it" mentality. It looks really great, but use caution if anything seems out of place as there are known rv scams out there. I ran into one on Ebay before I found my current rig. I looked on the POP Rv's website and their Ebay listings, but did not see your listing.
Also remember, you're buying a 16 yr. old rig that is both a vehicle and house on wheels. Insist that you be given time to drive and inspect both the chassis (for rust, engine, transmission, a/c, etc.) and the motor home appliances (have them demonstrated and test for proper operation). I'm not saying a few issues are a deal killer as expect there to be some issues.
I mention this because when buying mine a few years ago, I got in a hurry to hit the road back home. I had a long checklist and everything was ticking off fine so I stopped five items short on my inspection. Well, three of those five items had issues. Not serious, but I would have asked they be fixed or negotiated a discount since the van was respresented as everything working.
So push the enthusiasm down a notch when checking things out and keep alert for misreprentations or defects. I hope it works out.

CORRECTION:
Although the search I did on POPRv's website for Airstream Interstate did not return results, I looked again through their class b listings and found it here: https://www.poprvs.com/class-b-rvs-f...ifornia-191192

Thanks for the hard won advice Rowie Bowie,
I'm bringing my mechanic of 25 years along with me and he will not be shy to dig in with tools at the ready. We're planning for an hour long inspection and at least a 15 minute test drive. One issue that dampens my enthusiasm is the queen sized bed is now two singles and it's totally frustrating.

Good plan, and you already have experience with diesels. An hour may be cutting in tight, but if all goes well would be a minimum. It certainly would not be unusual for the chassis to need a few normal maintenance items like tires, shocks, & brakes and for the coach to have a few issues. I just comes with the territory and if there is something major, you can always ask for a consideration on price. Hope it is as good in person as pictures suggest. I found this youtube video of your planned purchase:
If there's two of you, then I can see the need for a queen bed. But for one person, the rare but practical two seats and a table makes a fine work area. Again, rare for a class b and even more important for someone living and working out of it full time.
Good luck.

Don't forget to check the propane hoses underneath. At 16 years old they should have already been replaced at least once. Not a deal-breaker, but something you will want to do soon if they look old and cracked.
Also, I agree with avoiding the EGR/SCR/DPF era, but I recall the 5 cyl having its own set of problems (but don't recall what those problems were). I wonder if the listed 188 hp is correct - that is the hp of the 3.0l 6 cylinder.
