Class A gravel is a highway-grade material suitable for direct paving-over, if someone wanted to do that. It's greatly preferable as a surfacing material, but of course it's correspondingly expensive. It would have been cost-prohibitive to do the entire job using it, so it's only on the pad.
Right now with the impenetrable wall of trees, it's difficult to see that the pad is actually perched on a ledge above the lake. I wanted the Class A on the pad for live-ability but also because I was worried about erosion over the side of the ledge. The material there had to be compactable and with good drainage properties.
I had also told the contractor that I had to keep re-sale potential in mind, that my husband and I participated in an Airstream internet group, and that if I ever had to sell the tract, it might be to someone with a trailer rather than a small motorhome. Therefore, it had to be navigable by someone pulling a trailer, to keep all options open.

Gimme another few weeks and if the universe is willing, it'll happen.
I'm also going to finally see which of the tech that Technomadia recommended works best - or works at all - out there. A few months ago, I paid Chris and Cherie for a site-specific consult. I managed to test part of the system when I was way out on the beach on the upper Texas coast, but the rest remains unproven.
One of the sparkies (my electrical engineer off-grid neighbor) is actually arriving at his property today, and he's going to send me some additional photos of our road and pad -- whenever he can, that is, because he doesn't have any connectivity either. Periodically he drives several miles to a public outpost (a remote community center) that leaves its wifi on for local residents, who pull into the parking lot to check their email as they are on their way from point A to point B.
That's actually pretty common in areas like that. For years, we'd do our United Airlines 24-hour pre-check-in for the return flights to Houston by driving to a rural library and accessing a C@P ("cap") site, which is a community access program designed to provide some degree of connectivity where it otherwise does not exist.
These ideas are quite foreign to people who live in American urban areas which are saturated with data services.

Border between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. I am the underachiever of this group, mileage-wise. The other two came from Alberta and British Columbia.

LOL, I feel like I've got the rudimentary technology available to me that they had during the Apollo program. Many miles from the nearest cell tower, I've got intermittent 3G and faint LTE, but I've got one more hardware trial remaining to deploy, courtesy of Chris and Cherie. If that doesn't work, at that point I'm s.o.l. on some of my in situ work plans, but that's life on the bleeding edge of tech. Nobody ever said it would be perfect, especially on the first iteration.
The tech isn't quite there, but the environment is unprecedented. It's quite something when the biggest source of sleep disturbance is being woken up by loons. Actual loons, the kind with feathers. Not the people we call loons in the big city.

Looks good!
I've had a fair amount of experience with cell data and towers a long distance (through trees). Yagi, with proper 50 Ohm low loss cable and amp (I think you have all but Yagi?). You will have to 'sweep' the antenna to find the best signal. Sometimes it is a bounce. Yagis are available with various gain and frequency. You need to pick the property freq for it to work.
