Hi Everyone,

I am picking up my brand new Airstream Interstate Ext this Friday the 13th. It is sliver with Onyx/Cream interior. They will be giving me a 3 hour training course but I have been trying to learn as much as I can beforehand. I am a total newbie to RVing and I'm really enjoying reading all the helpful threads here. I am super excited about getting my first RV. I plan to mostly use it for traveling to dog shows

Welcome k9jackie! You're going to have some fun. Which version of the Interstate are you buying?
You've also unearthed a pretty useful video that I've never seen before: towards the backend it seems to include lots of useful diy information I haven't seen anywhere else. I suspect it's been made for Airstream's new market in Thailand.

Thanks! I got the Lounge Ext 9, with the 4 seats up front... I will probably be removing one of the seats to accommodate a couple of dog crates.

Where are you buying? Colonial?

Chances are that your orientation won't be anywhere near as long as 3 hours. I hope it is as these are pretty complicated and you don't know what you don't know.

Make sure (Do me a favor) that during your orientation that you have them disconnect the 30 amp power cord, start up the generator, and have them demonstrate that the rooftop AC works on generator power.

Mine had a glitch that needed to be reset (simple) but did not work on delivery, so had to take it back. It was a simple fix that the dealer had done in a couple hours and was the only problem I have had to date.

On mine the generator would fire up no problem, wait for 2 minutes or so (as normal) for the lights on the control panel to light up which indicates that I can use my 30 amp power for AC, microwave etc. When the AC was powered on, as soon as the compressor on the AC kicked in which draws more amperage, it would only stay on a few seconds and the display light indicators on the power control panel would start going off and AC would kick off.

All has been well since last May though and enjoy ours all the time, short and long trips. Nothing beats these Class B's.

Might video tape your training. Also when they show you how to do something, see if they'll let you do it.

Also give them a call to see if they can fire up the furnace to burn off the oil before you have to use it.

So the dealership mentioned that they could store my AI for a while and I am wondering if I should do it. I live in Northern New Jersey and the weather is a concern. I still have significant snow in my driveway that I have to shovel out so I can park it... it's going to snow tomorrow and a few more days next week. I really want to bring my new toy home but would a rational person wait?

Tell them to check your house battery while you are still on the lot. I bought mine brand new and the house batteries were dead before that.

Just ask them to winterize it for you.. You won't be able to not have your new toy near by..

You'll want to push all the buttons try out the bed for comfort etc... I would have been out of my head if it wasn't at home for the first few days..

But choose your comfort level its an expensive piece of machinery and nothing is worse than having something happen....

Hi & congrats! I too am a newbie. I bought my AI in November from Colonial in NJ., spent a week in her and then took her back to the dealer who offered to babysit her until Spring arrives in New England. That avoided a big headache for me as the snow here continues to pile up. Only downside is I have a bad case of separation anxiety, I just want to play with her. Vacation is going to be early this year 😊

I too bought mine in November from Colonial, but since I'm only an hour away and had plenty of room in my driveway, I have it at home. I've been driving it weekly (or so) on the warm days between the snow storms. Clearing snow off it takes a little time, but I've got the perfect ladder and truck brush set up.

can't wait for our little trip in april, and then 10 weeks with my daughters this summer.

I noticed several things in the video:
1. When showing the step retracting, either the image was reversed or the slider was on the street side of the RV.
2. Same w/ the awning.
3. Is this a British/Aussie/Japanese version as it was shown as a RH drive and he said 230VAC.

But it was a very informative video. Wished I had it when I first got it. Also appeared that the electric option for the water heater was dropped.

It appeared to be a video made for Thailand so I guess they drive on the correct side of the road over there. Oops 😜
