Weird, but if you say so, I won't dispute it; you know your nation's laws better than I do, and I thank you for the correction.

Just wanted to update on what we found for parking on our trip. Quebec was difficult but did find street parking near market area. Rv lot near there was $50 for 6 hours. Better experience parking across the river in Levi's and taking the ferry $7 pp end trip. There is an rv lot up the street From the terminal but we found a street spot. Ottawa was easy we parked on the street in the byward market area for $6 for 2 hours. Both are very walkable cites.

Don't be surprised at the scarcity of parking; look at this:
1608 – L'Habitation (Quebec City) was founded by Samuel de Champlain, near the ruins of Stadacona. 1615 – The first missionaries, the Recollets, arrived in the city. 1629-32 – the city briefly passed into possession of the English.
Over 400 years old!

Okay, that explains references I've seen to "Habs" referring to hockey fans from that area. Never knew where it came from, but L'Habitation makes sense.

Pro, "habs" is an affectionate name for the Montreal Canadians as in "the Habs are going to clobber the Leafs tonight". The Leafs do not have an affectionate name.
You are correct on its origin. Jim

Perhaps. If there is one, which I doubt, I have forgotten it. One would have to ask Bobby Hull. Naw. Best not ask him.

As a general post-script to this thread, not urban-related but falling into the category of "it's right in front of you but you don't see it until someone brings the topic to your attention", my husband and I noticed the figure of "7.5 meters" on a certain Canadian national park road sign. Vehicles longer than 7.5 meters (24.6 feet) were prohibited from entering the road or parking in the area.
