Overhead console

Has anyone tried to remove the overhead console? I have a 2016 Interstate and I would like to hard wire my RVI brake controller to 12 volts and I think the light circuit in the console would work. I can remove the lens but I don't want to break the console. I would post a picture but I can't seem to figure that out from my phone.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Bob

If you have an unused fuse slot in the fuse box under the driver's seat, that would be the best place to wire in your brake controller. That's where Airstream wired all of the 12v appliances that are powered off the chassis battery/alternator, such as the awning and sliding step. AND it's much more accessible.

If you're trying to put the controller in the console, the DIN panel is removable and might give access to the circuit you referred to.

The DIN panel is where the Kenwood radio is?

I thought you were referring to the overhead console that has a removable panel.

The 2016s don't have a pop-out 1DIN panel at top center.

I have tried to attach a photo of the area in the overhead console that I would like to get access to. Me question is if anyone has removed it AND how to do it! It seems to just snap into the opening, however, it is tight and I don't want to break off any of the tabs that seem to hold it tight to the roof of the van.

Thanks!

Might try sliding a credit card (or similar thin piece of plastic) between the plastic and ceiling probing for the tabs. Once you find them, you can use one of those plastic panel removing tool to release each one.
