Update had to have both NOX sensors replaced 1500.00 ouch. At least my scan tool gave an accurate diagnosis. Love the rig but hate the maintenance costs.

DOCEVIL87 - 1500 for 2 sensors? YIKES! Hate it when the failure happens just outside of it's warranty window. Just think of it as a $300/yr. maintenance item and put that it the kitty jar every year for the next time so it doesn't sting as bad

Does not look like I will be able to go riding this weekend... so the plan for this weekend changes to tackling some honey-do tasks at home and try to remove some from the AI pending list:
- Change oil in Generator
- Install mesh in the intake opening to minimize critters making a nest inside the air-cleaner housing
- Install louder horn
- Build storage under AI for leveling blocks. Looking at some of those lift-top coffee table hinges to see if I can install those upside down and be able to pull down and out the base of where I store these... to make it easy to retrieve and store. Will still require a lock pin of some sort so it does not come down accidentally, but might work and make it easier for me...
- Reconfigure bar area. Leaving space for two bottles and re-purposing the rest for storage of spices, espresso pods, and witche's potions. Still have not figured out what to replace that with... but just removing the Lexan will get rid of the awful noise it makes going down the road.
- Replace rust prone screws in the bathroom mirror... hate to see (and have to polish clean) the streak of rust coming down from the screws in the mount...
- Replace the wood discs on the floor with the Turtle plates we got

WACHUKO - the support brackets for driver and/or passenger running boards should hold them with no issue since they are pretty light. I use that for my plastic outdoor sink

Horn installed. It cannot be installed on the stock location... no way to make it fit.
You could, however, install the Denali SoundBomb Mini in the stock location if you do not want to deal with routing wires and installing a relay... I have this one on my motorcycle and it is a great improvement over stock.
But I had the Stebel purchased already... so decided to push forward with that one...
Ended up installing next to the air compressor... wished it was facing outside (between grill and engine) but could not find a suitable place for the install...
Much louder than the stock unit. If on the road is still not enough, I will get the Denali to add to the stock location and have both...
Photos attached. Did not explained the removal of the grill since Alex did an excellent job on that with his thread ( Front Grill AI Project). But just quickly, remove two Torx25 bolts, plastic clips, swing the grill a bit, insert your hand and push out bottom clips... and it is out.
Oh, and I could not find a harness adapter to match the stock connector on the Mercedes horn harness so ended up cutting the wires and using some standard male/female wire connectors... then taped over it, and placed inside plastic loom to protect them...

Also took the time to install the mesh over the intake opening...
Before
Made some holes to be able to pass the tie wraps...
After
Initially I was just going to stop by the local hardware store and grab some mesh... turns out that I had this piece of plastic grate that came in a motorcycle mirror package... perfect!

At 28 hours... changed the oil in the generator and the air filter.
And to be completely transparent... changed the air filter because I overfilled the oil and had to do it all over again... .63 quart!! Got confused with the generator at home that you fill until the oil shows in the filler neck... Stupid, I know...
This is why I have a checklist for maintenance, but did I look at it!!??? No!!... so had the pleasure of cleaning everything!! Changing the oil again... and placed a new air filter...
Everything started fine and working as expected.
Just because I will not be okay until I do it... getting a couple of spark plugs (Spark plug NGK BR6HS) to replace the one in there, and to have a couple spare...
And yes, just done with this now... could not go to sleep knowing that I messed up... had to make it right. We have the RV full of diesel and LP and ready to go if we have to evacuate due to Dorian... looking like it might miss us if its stays on the current path...
Good night!

Hope you don't need to bug out.

Any idea if the Nox sensors need to be calibrated to the emissions control system after installation? If so I suspect this is something that only MB can do with their STAR code gadget, not something that can be done with other code readers. Also, I suspect the MB has somehow fixed it so that you have to buy their NOx sensor at a price of $1500 for two, even though a $370 one at Partsgeek is advertised as:
OES Style connectors and wire lengths. The Genuine oxygen sensor is the same exact product supplied by the automotive dealer and is provided in the vehicle manufacturers branded packaging.
After my recent experience with a wheel speed sensor bought at Partsgeek I am skeptical of their 'genuine' products.

Those are plug and play and reset codes... not calibration needed.

Thank you. And on the positive side, now I can answer the question "What happens when you overfill the oil in your generator?"
Lot's of smoke
Shuts down after 15 minutes
Oil fills the air filter
You get to do it all over again!
On my way to get the spark plugs

Titus,
As a devout DIYer, I've done a lot of reading on this subject. My understanding is that the Mercedes system requires that the Nox sensors have to be "married" to the vehicle with the STAR/Xentry or similar (Snap On) diagnostic tools, which are prohibitively expensive.
I hope the "Right to Repair" movement eventually becomes federal law. Since just about every product has software now, more and more manufacturers are locking us out of the ability to repair our own property.

I can't spend what that system costs to go the DIY route with these parts... that sucks big time. So what I read was older Sprinter then?

Like to consider myself a DIYer however felt the NOX sensors was above my pay grade.
Too much down side if it needed Dealer programing. Installed my valvo max, but don't know how to download pictures asking for a url?

Can you use the ValvoMax for the generator or is it just for the engine?
