Newfoundland Campground Recommendations Please

My wife and I are planning a trip to Newfoundland next August in our Airstream Interstate. One week visiting family in and around St Johns and two weeks sightseeing. We would love to hear from board members as to which campgrounds in Newfoundland you would be happy to go back to. Boon-docking to full service recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your tips and time.

Hello. My wife and I stayed at a campground called Pippy Park back in 2008 when we did the St Johns area of Newfoundland.
It was over the July 1st long weekend and although busy, it was by no means full.
We found that it was a great Central Park, not only for travel to the surrounding areas, but was close to a great walking path right into the harbour area of St Johns.
The park was well laid out and the staff friendly, and the camping spaces quite private. Enjoy!

Newfoundland Campground Recommendations Please

Hi there, I travels almost the entire island in 2012. One spot in particular always stands out in my mind and that is Greenpoint and the small campground there in Gross Morne National Park ...boondocking at its finest...first come first served with several ocean view sites.

I found the provincial parks across the island to be ideal and ideally located. It gets expensive at $7/gal hauling up and down mountainous winding windswept roads so parking the trailer and day tripping worked well.

You will be cheating yourself if you only have 2 weeks free in Newfoundland. My wife and I did 3 weeks and only saw the western half with a one day fast trip to Gander. If possible plan to enter and leave on the 2 different ferries because there is only one road across and no reason to dead head back. Make sure you have a reservation for each.

Musts are Gross Morne National Park and Gander airport museum. Gross Morne is one of only 3 places on earth that you can walk on the mantel of the earth and the letters written by those that were put down at Gander during 9/11 are very inspiring.

We only plugged in at a private campground twice to charge our batteries and used Provincial Parks the rest of the time.

Labrador is only a short hop via ferry. While there are parks there they are very rustic and the spaces too small for most trailers. The many attraction for us was a trip out to Battle Harbor, a restored cod fishing village off shore on a small island.

I have not found or more friendly group of people anywhere than the Newfees. The ag inspector, at Port Au Pass, gave my wife her 10 year anniversary inspector pin for our brag board because she had to take our USA potatoes. Prince Edward has convinced the Canadian Government that they are the only place on earth that should grow potatoes.

Hi. I must correct 57BB just a bit on his $7/gal for fuel as my calculations for your US gal put it closer to 4.50 with the exchange you now enjoy on our Canadian $.
Besides I really don't think you can use the cost of fuel as an excuse when we have paid about 4 times the cost of a regular SOB for our trailers.
It's just one of the costs of camping in one of the most unique areas of Canada.
Been there...

Oh well it was nearly $7/gal when I went in May 2012...no real complaint just reality. The provincial campgrounds were $15.70 a day so that helped make up the expensive gas! As well I over estimated the total length of my 57 Caravanner and 2011 ridgeline by 3ft...the ferry service very happily refunded my fare.

Newfoundland is one of the most amazing places I've ever visited and I'm definitely going back!!!
