New GPS Navigation Speed Notification
I remembered while on one of my test drives that there was a speed notification that beeped when you went over the speed limit
While it is just another nanny that may become annoying it can also be helpful to avoid tickets in new areas where you don't know the speed limit. It only beeps once when you pass the posted speed limit and is a function that supposedly you can disable.
Now it may not help some who prefer a radar detector but for me, it may come in handy. Not sure if this was on earlier models or not.

That's kind of cool. I guess in our AI, I am the "beeper!"

No. Not on the Kenwood/Garmin DNX 7180. For major roads, it would have a display in the lower right-hand corner that showed the posted speed limit. Usually, it was even correct, unless the speed limit changed since the GPS mapset was last updated. If you exceeded the posted limit as shown, the actual-speed display would switch from black numbers to red numbers. But no beep.

My old '86 Mercury Sable wagon had that feature...kinda. You would drive up to whatever speed you didn't want to exceed and then push the "Speed" button just like setting the cruise control, except that was a different button. The dash would then beep when you drove 5 mph over the set speed.

The BMW Nav V GPS shows the speed limit as well as a red indicator when you exceed that limit.

There may have been a visual indicator too. I kept my eyes on the road because of my unfamiliarity with the AI.

I agree the beep sometimes saves the day. I have it on my old NEXTAR from 2007 and it really pays off when you enter a SCHOOL ZONE or other speed zones in areas that your not familiar.
There is also an optional intersection warning if you want. Rather annoying when you travel the secondary routes.
I like the options of different announcers on there. I sometimes feel the women are ganging up on me! When they continue to tell me to "MAKE A U TURN" I like it when I can fire one of them.

You can buy, for additional money, speed trap and red light traps notifications for your Garmin. I have not done it yet. Internet searches, before your travel, will also tell you where they are. The governments are always searching for more sources of income.

I believe Tom Tom GPSs (at least some models) have this "feature" too. I'd hope it can be turned off... I like having the info about the speed limits, definitely, but I generally know what speed I'm going.

My favorite GPS Navigation app for the iPhone is Navigon, much better than both Google and Apple maps for navigational purposes, plus you download the maps so that you have full GPS use even when no phone signal is available.
One of the features of Navigon is a speed alert, and I have to say that I always blown away by how accurate and up to date it is. It's not perfect but pretty close.

Copilot is also a standalone App for iPhones and Andriods. It was the speed alert beep, but it can be turned off. I use it as a backup to my Kenwood/Garmin unit as I'm often using the Kenwood to find POI's as via points.

The Good Sam/Rand McNally RV gps has the verbal speed warning and it's actually pretty good. When you go into a changed speed limit zone it's talking to you as you go by the sign. You can turn it off. It also has a curve warning that's not so good and I haven't figured out how to turn that off.
