New Airstream Interstate Owner

i bought a used 2005 AI w 32K miles and pick it up next monday. while crawling under it i noticed the support brackets holding the onan genset were very corroded and scary looking. does anyone know what mounting bracket i need to replace?? so far i have a onan p/n 403 2869 and an airstream 511811-04 are these the same and is either one correct for my vehicle??

thx

Not sure, since I don't know if the 2005 Interstate has the same genset as the later models. But Cummins/Onan has dealers and repair shops all over that will be glad to replace the bracket for you. And given the weight of the generator and the need to put the vehicle up on a lift to remove the generator so you can replace the brackets, I would highly advise leaving that job to the pros. And while they're at it, have them service the genset as well.

SOB means something entirely different here on the Forums than it means out there in the rest of the world, too, and very few people complain about that one.

Around these parts, AI, as seen on the oval country of origin stickers, stands for Amelia Island... I just might have to get one of those to put on my new RT Adventurous CS. Not regretting my decision to go RT after seeing the latest AI "Grand Tour". Just drove it home from our covered parking spot at Wally Park near the JAX Airport. Quite a variety of Sprinter B's out there as a matter of fact.

Airstream has parts manuals on their website; here is the link to the 2005 Interstate parts book:
http://www.airstream.com/wp-content/...tate-parts.pdf
It seems you can buy a complete kit or the individual brackets.

thx for the link but all i saw was the p/n 511811-04 for the mounting kit not individual brackets. an airstream dealer told me the price on that was nearly $800 and he recommended i go to a welding shop and have them make something. if in fact the Onan p/n 403 2689 is the kit that Airstream uses i can get it much cheaper. i'm guessing no one here knows the answer so if and when i find out i will post. i can't believe no one else has a rust problem here

Speaking of rust.....

Ours is an 06, and I found/treated rust under the gasket that surrounds the rear door. I also have found a small spot right at the split of the gasket at the cargo door.

Check out the Interstate Maintenance & Upkeep thread for specifics.

Parts numbers 454216 and 454217 (on the same page) are the individual brackets.

Hi fuzzysb and mrcolin2u,

Looks like you both recently bought AI 2005. I was just wondering how you located your new to you AI?

I am looking in the general years of 2005-2007 and they are quite difficult to find.

Thanks
Kate

Hi Kate,
I found mine on Craigslist using Search all of Craigslistâ„¢ nationwide & more - SearchTempest as a search engine. I have been looking for a couple of years and didn't really know what I wanted, but I knew it had to be Sprinter based.
You need to look every day as I did. mine was on CL for less than 16 hrs when I sent an email with my phone number.
Four more were behind me and ready to take it if I didn't.
Good luck in your search. There are deals out there, just be patient and keep looking.

That's because people love them and hold onto them.

Good luck,

Maggie

just got lucky, bugs

i was passing a used car place on my way out of town and called my gf. a few days later she went to see it and it had been taken off the lot to be detailed. she drove it and convinced them to not list it on ebay for a few days. there wee 3 brothers that owned the car dealership and one of them gave her the wrong price so we got it for $6000 less than they were going to list it...yippie. it was hardly used and then the couple got divorced. i did a search afterwards and only found 3 others in the country all had over 55 k miles so we're pretty psyched
i know of a sprinter based winnebago that is in excellent shape for $43 k near harrisburg, pa if you'd be inbterested
