On my Interstate, the awning and the retractable step share the same alarm, which sounds exactly like you describe.
Bear in mind that the only thing holding the awning in is tension on the awning fabric. And the awning fabric tension can loosen over time, especially if the awning was put away wet, or if the temperature gets warmer after the awning was retracted, or if you hit bumps and potholes that can shake the awning loose.
Nearly every time that particular alarm has gone off in my Interstate, the culprit has been the awning, and a visual inspection will usually reveal that the awning has extended just a fraction of an inch. Letting the awning out a few inches and retracting it again usually shuts up the alarm.
So don't rely on the fact that the awning was put away properly before you left home or left the campground. If the alarm goes off, check the awning again just to be sure.
