Locating new-to-me Interstate
My beloved 2006 Interstate, with 193,000 miles on it, was totaled about three weeks ago.
I have just settled with insurance and am beginning the search for another Interstate with which to continue my travels.
I prefer an 05-06-07, not extended, and with as few bells and whistles as possible, and could pick up anywhere within the continental US.
I would appreciate any information and suggestions, and posted links to ones y’all may come across for sale.
As I look and contact sellers for information, I will post rig specifics here for feedback and suggestions.
If your OWN is for sale, please do not post that here as it would violate forums rules, but you could send me a pm and I’ll contact you.
Thanks in advance!
Maggie

Thank you, and I will.
I have just spoken with the man at RV Master Techs, in Glendale AZ, who is handling the consignment sale of this 07 with 57,000 miles.
They seem highly reputable and to have very good reviews.
It is reportedly in mint condition, manual everything , gone over by their service department and also certified for a 5 year warranty on everything.
Is anyone available to take a look at it for me? I would compensate for time and travel. Am also going to look at inspectors here on the forums.

Don’t know that I want to go older, nor the 162,000 mile one, tho I notice the asking price is very close to what SF valued mine at, which pleases me.
If I’m going to get a replacement, seems sensible to go for lower mileage.

From the web view, click on the top left “Portal” link. Then scroll down and look on the left side of the page. You can select state and type of inspector.
For Arizona, looks like the folks selling the unit in AZ are the only listed inspectors!
I am about 2 hours away from that unit but would not feel qualified to do a PPI (pre purchase inspection) on an Interstate. Sorry :-(

I would suggest subscribing to CarFax while looking.
That helps weed out ones that had issues.

Maggie we would volunteer to look at any Phoenix area units you are interested in.
We are, however, not inspectors nor Interstate owners but would gladly be a set of good set of eyes for you. We can also reach out to our unit to refresh our memories if anyone owns an actual Interstate.

That’s a thought.
I sent a pm to RetroRV in Phoenix, is that RV Master Techs? (googling them, I think this is a separate business, with different address and phone #
He’s going to have someone show him how to use FaceTime or Skype on his iPhone on Monday, to give me a visual walk thru, and I may also have him send the inspection their service department did.
They also ran it thru CarFax, and it is clean.
Two owners, the second just a bit over a year, husband has Alzheimer’s.
This almost seem too easy, so I need to be cautious, tho they are a reputable entity...

I had just sent you a pm.
Thank you!
It looks very good, at first blush, but I think a physical set of eyes on it would be prudent on my part.
I don’t think an Interstate owner needs to look at it, necessarily.

I bought mine sight unseen- except for pictures and video.
No issues, maybe I was lucky.
(As a side note, when we got there to pick it up (flew dow, already paid for it and I already had titled and plated it in WA) they had it all plugged in, filled up etc.
I walked inside and the smell was awful. Dang, pictures and video don’t portray smell. I never even considered that. Very ‘mildewy’ Sort of smell.
I worried me, but figured I could sort it.
As they were walking me through everything, the salesman told me the one switch was for the hot water heater (it was on). It said ‘Tank Heater’. Well...that is actually the heaters for the black and grey water tanks NOT the hot water heater (which is not labeled). I figured that out later, and believe what happened is they left the tank heaters on (it was warm outside also) and what little water and gunk were left in the tanks started cooking. Creating awful smell.
After a couple of days the smell totally went away and I’ve never had an issue since.
All that to say, you may I want to ask them how it smells (perhaps smokers owned it or whatever). Or if a forum member is looking at it for you.
good luck!
Mark

I saw your PM right after I posted and responded.
Retro RV is a small private business and John is a good man and good contact of ours. He owns, repairs, rents and renovates Airstreams.

Don’t forget to have the black water tank vent inspected as well as all the grey water tank connections.

Since you’re looking at a dealer, i would also ask for an upgrade to a 3 stage converter and possibly new batteries.

No, it’s a slight malformation, which I have just talked with them about as I saw it too.
Hittenstiehl and her husband have just looked at it thoroughly, and she said this looks like a problem with laying the original floor or an old leak or something.
It’s not soft, just the flooring deformed. I would cover it with a rug.
She also says there’s some gentle wear, otherwise it is in great shape, but mine has that too and it’s expected for an 11 year old rig.
I’m optimistic.

MAGGIE - I am back in Las Vegas now. I am only 260 miles from Glendale. I would be happy to check it out as a 2nd set of eyes to Hittenstiehl. I am not rv inspector, not an expert on anything rv. But I have a very, very OCD quality that would be bad in certain situations but PERFECT for such scrutinizing. I can not do any engine testing other than test drive it. But I can go over all it's systems to see if they work. It would only take a little over a full tank of diesel. But I would NEVER want you to compensate for my time. I would love to do it, if you feel inclined. PM me. PS: Picking up my AI from dealer Mon and could go anytime
EDIT: while at dealer, one of the sales people who just recently came from Jackson Center said that AS has had a run of units, not just AI but trailers, where the glue was not evenly laid when flooring was put in, so created air pockets. And in hotter regions, as they aged, the air pockets bubbled up, coz nothing holding it down. They actually revised their floor gluing process after that. Did not really believe his story, but now seeing the above pic proves it. Hopefully that's all it is and not a current leak.
