Wow! I had the same thing happen to me, kinda. Although it didn't actually "fall off", I helped it.

On the morning we were to leave on vacation to Seattle (a 2000K mile trip for us), we stopped to pick up some last minute supplies, I pulled into a parking space. When I backed out, there was a little piece of rebar or metal rod used to anchor the concrete parking pawl sticking up. When I backed out, it caught the bottom edge of the bumper and the bumper popped off and was laying on the ground.

My wife was screaming at me, "You've torn the bumper off!"

Not a good way to start a vacation.

My brother is always working on cars, so I went to my brother's house. When he saw it, he started laughing, "That's not your bumper, that's just a bumper cover! See, the factory bumper is still there."

The Airstream installed bumper cover is indeed attached to the bumper with double face tape and a couple of pop rivets in the fender wells. We reinstalled the bumper cover and added a few more pop rivets. I had to replace a broken light bulb in the lower driving lights. Surprisingly, we were on our way in about 2 hours.

A couple of irrelevant things I have learned - I have driving lights that I never knew I had. When I replaced the bulb; my brother said "Turn on your driving lights to see if they work." Driving lights? In 5 years, I never knew. Also, your temperature sensor is located directly behind the front license plate.

The biggest thing I ever learned about RVing is that you need a sense of humor.

Won't your E-trek have something similar? It looks like it from the brochure.

I'm guessing a smart phone error or you you're going for the mileage award.

On a more serious note, I was wondering how the OP knew the cover came off while stopped at the lite.

The success or failure of the 3M mounting tape is directly related to proper surface preparation. When done right, removal requires cutting/tearing the foam and then removing the residue.

LOL! 73shark, good catch on my error. I meant to say 2K. In total, the entire trip was just under 5K.

One thing I noticed while the bumper cover was off, was that the 3M mounting tape had not adhered properly because in some spots it had not contacted the bumper surface. Other than a couple of pop rivets in the fender wells and a couple underneath, there was not a whole lot holding the cover on.

In my experience, 3M mounting tape actually works good if used correctly.

I just checked my bumper cover and it appears that the only thing holding it on is the two pop rivets on each side. There was no evidence of it being stuck on to any other part of the chassis.

Ick! I know that we're supposed to be tolerant of other lifestyles, but the very idea of two guys kissing, even if they are brothers, still gives me the heebie-jeebies! Couldn't you make them shake hands instead, the old-fashioned way?
