After the discussion regarding SumoSprings, I decided to go ahead and buy a set, front and rear. Just goes to show that even a crusty old engineer can still learn…

On a different subject, just replaced the original and ridiculously dim patio light on my Interstate with a larger and brighter one that also has outdoor stereo speakers with Bluetooth connectivity so I can play music from my phone through the speakers. The lights also change color, controlled through a free app on my phone.

The speaker enclosure of the light is only available in black or white, no silver or T1N Interstate colors.

Mine is the Premium version. The regular version just has white LED lights, no color changing LEDs, but otherwise looks the same.

If you've ever wondered what the inside of the T1N Sprinter doors look like under the trim, there you have it below. The cab is a tin can, essentially. And here's the tin-can trauma: We measured a pretty consistent 74.6 dbA mid-cab at 65 mph (using a real sound meter, not an iPhone). Try listening to that for 12 to 14 hours a day on long trips (as we just did, again). It's not only unpleasant - it's unhealthy and very fatiguing. And forget about having a nice sound system. It becomes necessary to turn up the music so high to overcome the road noise that you'll end up half deaf.

We noticed a big improvement in cab noise after we had custom carpeting installed. It was noticeably louder than 74.6 dBA prior to that job.

The next obvious functionality gain is via door improvements, so my husband is in the process of doing the door sound deadening mod that has been worked out and published by others (details to follow). He took the lead on that and I took the lead on troubleshooting the black water system after he cleared the way by removing the Airstream-installed Thetford toilet.

Both projects are still in progress, but I thought I'd post this pic in case anyone has any related comments along the lines of sound deadening while our doors are still conveniently disassembled. I think it has been awhile since this subject has come up.

Replacement hose for indoor shower

In the bathroom, we recently broke the flexible metal hose casing from the faucet end. Gorilla Glue Gel worked for a while but it became clear a real fix was in order. After much research and numerous trips to a plumbing supply house, Amazon, then Lowes and HDepot, I finally settled on what turned out to be a perfect replacement. It was even the right length of approx. 48 inches.

I had to remove the access panel outside the bathroom. This product is narrow enough at the end to snake up through the bathroom faucet body, then you attach some of the supplied fittings and adapters using thread tape and victory finally presented itself. No additional parts were required. Earned my daily provision of grog (beer).

Hi Protag,

On the Bluetooth speaker light.... Did you have to drill new mounting holes?

FYI, My T1N will take the black, because there is a wide black piping strip under the current light!

Thanks for this!

Yes. It was much larger than the tiny and dim Airstream-installed light on my 2012 Interstate, so new holes were only to be expected.

Y'all should look at Notstock's vid today on Instagram. He pulled the interior of his Interstate completely apart. LB_3 has started to refer to it as the six million dollar van, which if you are familiar with Instagram #vanlife tradition, would be a perfect username.
:-)

I’m referring to it as Steve Austin, the 6 Million Dollar Van, or just Steve for short. Nobody completely dismantles their Interstate without doing some serious upgrades during the re-install. I’m completely enthralled with the potential his now blank canvas represents.

Sorry - I didn't link it because I think you have to have an Instagram account in order to view anything on Instagram. So I figured a link would bounce to the login page anyway.
