In-motion satellite dish

Hi all,

I am looking to down size from a 40ft Fleetwood Revolution class A to the Interstate. I have an in-motion satellite dish on it and was pretty useful in keeping my 7yr old occupied during long stretches on the highway. Has anyone installed one on their rigs? Does the Interstate even have enough roof space with the AC and solar panels to install one? Also, do Interstates come prewired for SAT?

Thanks in advance

Tom

I had a Winegaurd in motion satellite installed on mine. They had to remove the factory TV antenna to make room for it, it sits to the rear of the AC unit. Not sure about the pre wire but they may have used the the original antenna wire. It works well.

Jeff, where do you keep the receiver? Also, can you use both tvs with satellite?

I placed it in the small compartment above the drivers seat just behind the sliding plexi glass door. That is where the connections terminate and there is a 110 recep there. That is just about the only option, it also allows the remote to operate through the glass. I had mine wired so that both TV's will display the channel that is selected through the satellite receiver. I suppose you could run two receivers to see two separate stations. Usually my daughter is watching cartoons on DVD up front (through a headset) while I use the rear TV for regular programs. Mine is a Direc TV unit and I installed the DVR. I placed the unit on a 1" thick piece of foam to keep it from sliding and bouncing around up there.

Jeff, did you get your Interstate from the dealer in Springfield? If so, how would you rate them? The reason I ask is because since my dealer in Kansas City stopped handling Airstream, Springfield is now my closest dealer.

I bought mine through Dave Arbogast outside Dayton Ohio. I think the Springfield dealer is pretty good and a good service center. They just didnt have what I wanted at the right time.

Jeff,

thanks for the info. I was figuring that that place would be about the only place. i don't plan on running 2 receivers. Just wanted to make sure that we can watch on both TVs. I like your idea on the foam so that the receiver does not bounce around.

I've taken my Interstate to Reliable RV in Springfield more than once for service. They are an excellent dealer and service is as good as it gets. I just wish it was closer to where I live.

Not only are they competent, they are honest as well. I highly recommend this dealer if you need any work done.

Gerald

Thanks, I'll have to check them out for my next service call.

I had the guys at Colonial RV install a Trackvision in-motion satellite dish and receiver. The dish sits aft of the AC unit and the receiver was installed next to the switch panel with an RF remote. The system was expensive buts works very well.

I like my trac vision very much. In motion system works very well (though as already noted it's not cheap)

The Wineguard gets the job done but wont pick up HD from Direc TV, my unit is a Road trip mission I believe which is an in motion unit. The cost was around 2,100.00 installed if memory serves. The only complaint I have with the unit is that once it locates the satellite and I get a picture I hear the unit continuing to work as though searching for the satellite, this continues for at least 7 minutes, it's a little loud and annoying.

Jeff64, we had an in motion on our previous bus m-home and they installed a switch on the motor. Once it located the satellite you turned off the motor. No noise then.

I think I'm going with the Winegard in motion. $1800 installed.

I hear that you don't have to do updates like the tracvision.

Also I had the tracvision A-7 in our last interstate and besides being 3 times the cost it did constantly have to search for signals.
