Hot Water Heater Light Won't Come On

We're plugged in, and we DO have hot water. But just noticed that the red "on" light on the water heater switch isn't lit. Should it be lit red?

I think you'll find that it lights red when there is a problem with the gas ignition. Check your manual to be sure though.

It's not an "on" light; it's a "fault" light. And the light works whether you're on propane or electric or both if there's a fault somewhere in the system that causes the heater to shut down.

Don't feel dumb. I thought it worked the same way you did at first

I did the same thing then I sought it goes on when the water is hot still I discovered it stayed on and the water was not hot. They Thermo fuse was blown now everything works fine without a light on.
