Just got the scoop on how Fiona got from point A to point B. The first tow truck driver that had showed up, was sent back again. He showed up at 7pm yesterday. Took him until 8:30pm to get her hooked up and drive her away.

Sounds like he did use that "spectacle lift" that Protag mentioned. That's all the info our storage manager had. So, let's assume that he disengaged the drive shaft, and let's hope he didn't cause any other damage. He would have had to drive about 20 miles on the freeway to get her to MB.

MB supposed to call today to let us know what their diagnosis is.
The guy at MB did tell me he's seen RV shops accidentally wire stuff to the chassis battery instead of the house batteries.

About 1.5 to 2 months ago, our battery disconnect switch stopped working, and the rv shop fixed it. That must have been when they ruined those 2 wires in the inverter compartment. Wondering if they also might have wired the disconnect switch wires into the wrong battery. Is that even possible? Would they have been anywhere near the chassis battery wiring?!

Will hold judgement until I hear from MB.

The MB guys should be able to tell you if he did or not since they would have to hook it back up.

Mercedes called. Said they hooked her up to a jump starter and she started right up. WTF???

They're gonna check the actual battery and run diagnostics on her. Looks like they're closed now, so I guess Fiona is having like a little San Diego staycation for the weekend.

These coaches have all kinds of gremlins.. When I drove mine home from getting repaired for a charging issue ( screw in a wire) all was fine until I took it for a drive a few days later..

1. The radio would not turn on
2. I plugged a phone in to charge and the power was intermittent.
3. It was raining and the roof started leaking..

I checked all the fuses and they all looked fine.. Took it back up to the dealer and they fixed the roof leak but now the radio was working and the ports were all fine. They couldn't figure out why the radio and charging ports did that..

I have had it a few times after and all is working fine..

Mjgman....when you found the screw in a wire, did the repair shop fix it and fix any related issues for you (at no cost, under warranty)? Seems we have the same situation, and I want to be sure dealer service takes responsibility for all damages (and we are still under warranty).

Yes everything was covered under warranty. The screw in the wire most likely happened at the factory. Regardless of where it happened it should be covered. I don't think you will have a problem, at least I hope you won't.

Mercedes just called. They replaced the chassis battery, under warranty. They did not find any unusual drains on the battery (like something wired to it that shouldn't be, etc.).

When new battery was installed, the ESP warning light came on. They traced that to be an airbag warning. They are now investigating whether it's just a faulty ESP light/sensor.

Picked up rig yesterday from Mercedes. esp sensor not arrived yet from Germany, so will have to take her back in when they get that part.

In meantime, we took rig to airstream dealer and dropped her off to get that part of the issue started.

We made it real clear to the service manager who checked us in, that they were the only people who opened the inverter compartment, so they MUST have done the damage to the wires.

Now we wait. Will call them in a day or two to check in.

Dealer is currently working on our rv. No details yet.

We asked them to repair the damaged cables, check the BIM, and check/test our coach batteries.

Is there anything else we should have them check while they have the unit? Any other items that could have been damaged or degraded by having had everything go so dead? Fuses, inverter function..????

Just curious, what was the source for your roof leak? I can't imagine there being very many opportunities for leaks in a "B" Van!!

Thanks in advance.................Tom

On the last 2 Interstates that I had the pleasure of working on, I did notice that the factory 'scrimped' on the amount of SikaFlex that they used around their roof penetrations.

I had to 'enhance' the sealants a bit in several spots.
