Great Sprinter Service!

Just a quick shout-out for the folks at Upscale Automotive AKA 'The Sprinter Store'. I just had them do some upgrading on my '11 2500 service van as it's just about to turn 100K miles and the front struts were shot.

Sprinter Store replaced all struts/shocks with their heavy duty Koni adjustable gas units (lifetime warranty to the original owner), added a couple of rear leaf helper springs and a second transmission fluid cooler.

The van handling is improved by AT LEAST 100% with the new struts and springs, the work was excellent and done by Sprinter specialists. Road sway is completely gone and the van tracks like it's on rails! I'm very pleased, to say the least! And after having both Mercedes and Freightliner look (unsuccessfully) for an annoying rattle in the front that sounded like a heat shield, Sprinter Store not only found it, but is ordering the new shield and brackets, along with a new EGR valve that has been the cause of a hesitation at 1800 RPM. Work soon to be completed!

If you're anywhere near the Portland, OR area, they are DEFINITELY worth the trip!!!!

Good to hear - I'm having them do shocks and service for me later this week.

I bought the shocks/struts from them by mail order, and had my Sprinter dealer install them while I had it in for its 10,000 mile service. Didn't get the helper springs or the transmission cooler, though. The shocks/struts alone made a noticeable difference.

Great Sprinter Service!

I mail ordered shocks, struts and sway bar. Installed at our Ford dealership.

Side-to-side 100 times better, also no baffling when behind big rigs like stock.

Lounge seating is still pretty harsh, but I think better than it was.

Short of installing an air bag suspension, I'm not sure there's any way to take the harshness out of a 1 ton (MB calls it 1 1/4 ton) suspension. Bigger sway bars and better shocks can eliminate the wallow/sway but not the harshness.

Lew,

Just for clarity, did you add ANOTHER Sprinter Store transmission cooler in line with one already there?

Or is this first auxiliary cooler to THIS second Sprinter of yours?

When I bought my 2006 you advised that I add their cooler and I did. I just assumed then that you had too.

Hey Sergei,

This is on my 2011 Sprinter. The 'old' one was an '04. I waited until the extended warranty expired and coincidentally (actually at the same time ), the front struts were diagnosed as shot. Knowing this, I decided to have the folks in Portland do a few upgrades.

There are now 2 transmission coolers in the '11; the original Mercedes unit and the new, second tranny cooler. After a week or so, I can notice that the shifting is more positive and the kick-down shifting engages in a more positive fashion.

Remember that changing one sway (anti-roll) bar w/o changing the other will affect the van's handling characteristics. For instance, increasing just the rear bar diameter will reduce understeer and to the extreme could create oversteer. Most non-performance vehicles come from the factory w/ understeer because that is safer. Most drivers can handle an understeering vehicle while losing control of an oversteering one when the rear end tries to lead.

Not sure what, if any, effect a bigger bar would have on the ESP.

Got excellent service at Upscale Sprinter Store yesterday. New shocks all around and all the 40,000 mile service items. I was also planning on possible spring upgrade but they were all out of stock so I only got shocks at this time. Ride is now much more controlled with the extra damping. Great place to have your Sprinter serviced!
