Cool Generator/Redudancy

New guy here, if the power at the campsite goes out does the generator automatically kick in? If not has anyone out there ever tried to have this fail safe installed. We travel with animals and trying to keep them cool.

There are auto start devices that are made, don't know how easy or hard they would be to add to your Interstate. They would involve a transfer switch and detection for the loss of line power, and start sequences for the generator to run and come on line.

Certainly possible I know, but not sure where to advise you to go to look for how to do it.

You would need something called an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), and wire it in. You already HAVE an ATS, but it's set up so that if the generator is turned on while shore power is hooked up, it transfers all 120vAC loads to the generator even though the shore power still works.

Your new ATS would have to default to the shore power instead, and automatically start the genset when shore power is interrupted.
