Financing Pre-Owned 2018 Interstate: Suggestions?

Hello Everyone,

I am hoping someone who has financed a pre-owned airstream interstate, from a private seller can point me in the right direction for financing. I am looking at a 2018 with 5K miles.

If you have any suggestions of who to go through, or who NOT to go through, please let me know. Any information is greatly appreciated. I have only financed one vehicle (regular truck) in the past and it was brand new through a dealership.

Is it typically required to be an RV specific loan? What ballpark interest rate did you pay, and what percentage down payment?

Never mind. Paid cash for it. I am the new owner of a 2018 silver Lounge 3500 EXT, with rear air bags. White seats, with Colombian Walnut. Very excited.

Congratulations on your Interstate purchase. After years of saving I too can finally stop financing depreciating assets.

GPERN83 - NICE! CONGRATS! That's the way to do it. No mortgage, no car payments. Always the best way if you can swing it. Even if I have to live a little downgraded lifestyle for a year or two until I get adjusted, it works well. Sucks to drain all that money at once, but once it's gone, you can't spend it on something else, so that's the good part. I have to admit though, I have financed high priced vehicles before BUT only when I got a super deal on price & 0%-2% factory financing (that was back in the early 2000's). It was so cheap to finance it then, it was better to keep my cash.

My credit union gave me a 1.81% loan last year. Couldn't pass that up!

BTW ... I hate to owe money. I paid it off within a year of buying the AI.

JOHN - I know what you mean. But 1.8% is almost free money, its just tempting to not pay off. When I was starting off and cant afford to buy house cash, the next best thing was to get my subsequent homes from 30 to 15 to 10 yr mortgages. It sucked for awhile to be paying a $450,000 note in 10 instead of 30. But 3.9% house mortgage made us take the 10 and we managed to pull it off. But if I ever see below 2% car loan again, I will take the loan. I rather pay my local bank or CU 2% than pay the IRS more than that for the extra income when I sell assets to pay car in cash. They are thieves

If I wanted to finance or re-finance one of these AS's; MH or TT, I would go through a credit union...10 year financing if you need it.

Congrats on your purchase.

I enjoy telling people that the interval of time between when I first decided I WANTED a camper van, to the point where I actually GOT a camper van, was exactly 45 years. Yup. Enough time for me to get educated, pay off massive student loans, put up savings for retirement and medical expenses, and put up separate savings for the camper van. We, too, paid cash.

And then for DIY projects, we KEPT ON paying cash, but that's what jobs are for.

Someone needs to create a van-equivalent acronym like boat. Anyone up for the challenge?

"Boat" stands for "bust out another thousand". Because that's what boat owners do.

It has to reference cash hemorrhage, though. And it should incorporate a verb. The "V" is especially problematic in that regard. I haven't come up with anything even half decent yet. "Bust Out Another Thousand" - that's really quite good, which is why it caught on. Maybe I should try to build a phrase on "camper" or "off-grid" instead of "van". Or something.

Thanks Everyone! I am very happy. Got a smokin deal as far as I am concerned.

2018 EXT 3500 LOUNGE
5900 Miles
Silver Paint
Colombian Walnut, with the White (Oyster?) Seats
Rear Air suspension, but no leveling jacks

$105K - Private Seller

The only other vehicle I have financed was a brand new Escalade at 0% interest. I have always sort of had a rule for myself that if I couldn't pay cash (or didnt want to), I dont really need it. I almost broke my own rule, but I am so glad that I didnt.

Yes, starting with the speakers. The fusion head unit seems "ok", but the speakers have to go. Reading up on these, I had planned on doing an ECU program to get some more power out of it, but I think its actually pretty peppy. It did very well on the 800 mile trip home from where I picked it up.

I did the speakers first too. An easy one. Limited options for the back due to the depth.

Went dealer route on used due to financing

I hope this may be useful. I first looked at buying from private party and gave up as the entire sales process seemed so much more complicated for private sale out state in my case. My bank and credit union could not come close to the interest rate a dealer could provide by shopping to their sources. Two dealers offered me 5.49 % interest rate on 20 year with good credit from either US Bank or Heritage Bank. Shorter term would lower interest rate. The ease of title transfer seems more streamlined. I actually wanted to buy used from an AS dealer hoping this would help is using what warranty actually transfers but a better deal arose from a non-AS dealer. I expect for all practical purposes I will have little if any warranty except on the chassis from MB.
