Removing the awning will also leave holes and other markings to contend with.

On the NCV3s, it's clamped to the roof rails, ergo no holes.

Well...okay, but wouldn't there be marks then on the roof rails?

Hard to imagine something like that being affixed for years, then removed with no trace.....but, I could be wrong.

Or maybe just one hole, since it's a power awning and there's a roof penetration for the wiring.

Since the OP said he was storing it, I assumed he would leave the wiring and just tape it down so he could easily reinstall at a later date.

Since the mounts are clamped to the roof rails, marking would be minimal, if at all. But I've never removed a clamp to check, so that's just conjecture.

Thank you all for replies, tomorrow I will look with the ladder there...
And if I will decide to remove it, I will definitely post pics of the entire process.

My 2013 has factory roof rails, but I'm not sure the new Interstates still have them. There are different brackets used with and without roof rails.

Hello fellows!
Looked today on the roof and decided not to mess with the awning, and to leave it as is )))))

Follow-up report on the side rearview mirrors achievement:
1) Properly adjusted the mirrors for myself preference, as I am an only driver on this bus.
2) Put several pieces of Epoxy Putty between the glass and mirror frame.
3) Drive-tested - mirrors are perfectly solid without any vibration.
4) Thanking everyone for replies on the question.
5) Suggesting everybody to do the same with mirrors, but don't forget to disconnect mirror adjustment buttons on the driver door panel, or to stock it somehow to avoid mirrors adjustment. If need to sell the bus in a future - the epoxy putty is easily cut by knife and cleaned with acetone.

Hi gentlemen! Why so low movement here in the thread? Hope everybody okay.

Have question about DEF fluid: does my dashboard has a warning light when it is empty? Do I have to fill it up once in a while, or I have to wait till it is empty? Can I use aftermarket fluid or the original from Mercedes?

Thanks everyone!

Hi there!

Just a suggestion...it would be a good idea for you to read thru and familiarize yourself with your owners manual, especially for such things as DEF fluid and other routine things.

You will get the information you need more quickly, it will be more in-depth, and you will learn important information about the rig you love in the process.....and, you will soon find yourself helping others.

Being the compulsively organized sort that I am, I put little removable tabs on the pages of our owners manual for important areas, making them easier to find when we needed them.

Glad you are enjoying your Interstate. I wouldn't travel any other way.

Good advice from Lily as the ultimate penalty is your AI will stop and refuse to start when out of DEF.

Thanks everyone!

Do read the manual closely. You can download a PDF copy that makes searching for specific info easier. I keep a copy of it and other Interstate system manuals on my iPad for easy access when traveling. Here is page from my 2012 Sprinter manual on the DEF level indications.

If one would be patient to read all books and manuals, he would not ask questions here, would he? This is a Forum, and I wouldn't tell anyone in the forum 'go read the manual', because we are here to speak and socialize, aren't we?
:-)

Many thanks to Mike Boxter for the posted information!

In all fairness, those of us who DO read the manuals still sometimes have to ask for clarifications from those that have ALSO read the manuals, when the manuals don't make sense or don't adequately cover the subject. Or on those rare occasions when we don't even have the manuals.

But as responsible owners, it behooves us to read the manuals first if we have them, THEN ask questions if we can't find the answer or if the answer in the manual doesn't make sense. I know that English isn't your native language, so there's a fair chance that the manuals will make sense to you even less often than they do to the rest of us. Even so…

Forums exist for the open exchange of ideas, not as a way to avoid doing our own basic research. If you asked such a basic question because you don't have the manuals available, it's best to say so up front; that way the rest of us won't think you're just being too lazy to crack open a book.
