Ours came with a metallic cover in the original box. You are to put the unit in this metallic cover which prevents it from being read while the car is being towed.

Last time I crossed a toll bridge while pulling a toad— the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway— I was charged for both vehicles because the price is per axle. And that's paying cash, not EZ Pass.

On the other hand, when I crossed a toll bridge in Pensacola Beach headed to Fort Pickens Campground, I wasn't charged for the toad, because the toll is a flat rate. Again, that's paying cash.

I'm hesitant about putting anything on the bumper. I enclosed my front license plate in a nice weather tech enclosure. It kept setting off the bumper sensors.

Be careful when passing through Illinois....plate covers are illegal and they LOVE to write 'em up! I know several people who have been ticketed. Other states may have prohibitions as well.

That is good information! Fortunately I made a decision long ago to avoid the state of Illinois regardless of how many extra miles I need drive.

In Texas you can have certain frame-like devices as long as no part of the plate is obscured or made ambiguous. For instance those frames with car dealer logos on them - those are not supposed to be used. They can be pretty picky about what they deem as "obscured". No device may cover part of the letters in "Texas" at the top of the plate, for instance.

Some of this has to do with photo auto-recognition of plates... frames interfere with the computers' abilities to decide conclusively what is and is not a valid Texas plate. Most of our law enforcement now has automatic scanners that automatically barf out records on every vehicle that passes by an officer (a process which tends to make civil liberties people less than happy).

And some plate covers defeat (according to the ads) laser as they (cops) tend to aim for a flat surface for a good reflection.

That's pretty harsh! Remember Illinois is really 2 states. 1) The People's Republic of Chicago and the rest. There is animosity between the two (all taxes go to the Republic while the rest of the state rots).
2) We are very kind people and give our Governors THE best retirement plan in the nation....an 8' X10' and 3 squares a day!

Oh, and we have Reciprocity with Washington. They got Obama and we got Rom Emanual.

I thought that was Louisiana. Edwin Edwards may have been granted early release from parole in 2013 but if he lives that long he'll be eligible to run again in 2028, fifteen years from the end of his sentence. Not likely he'll live that long since he would be 101 years old by then. Still, you've got to admit that not many states would legally allow a convicted felon to run for office again!

Off-topic, I know, but when I found out that convicted felons could run for office, I was stunned, and just had to share it! We now return you to the discussion of EZ Passes.

A bit late to the party. My ezpass is on the license plate. Works great.

So far, not one fine, greatest thing since sliced bread.
I use the Mass EZ pass also. (I live in California). In researching the EZ Pass program I found that some states charge a deposit while Mass does not. Also Mass claims about a 10year battery life while some states claim a lot less. (seems they would all be the same).

I use Florida SunPass, the transporder mounted on the windshield on the right of rearview monitor, it works fine, the windshield heating elements don't interfere with the toll booth signals.

Question

I hope this Q isn't too dumb; I live in Las Vegas, NV and never travel any toll roads. I'm planning a trip to the UP of Michigan and will be traveling around Chicago, IL via toll roads. I'll be towing my Airstream. Am I able to purchase a pass for the IL. toll road system, from LV, NV. so I can travel non stop with the trailer? How does the E-Z pass work; submit a credit card, pay up front, travel the road and pay later?

They list other states which accept the iPass, and all other details can be found above.
