End of life CO2 detector
I stopped by the storage yard to find my CO2 detector wailing each 30 seconds. I was surprised to find the detector is wired in to the red 12v circuit with 2 red wires and a yellow wire. There is a connector I was able to pull out of the ceiling so that I could unplug the detector. Red wires feed the female connector in the ceiling. There is a caution label on the detector to "turn off both 12v supplies before installing/replacing the 9v battery." The battery tested good, by the way.
Turns out that the detector is flashing and beeping an end of life signal and must be replaced. Labels say that it should be good until April 2022, but they lie! I figure Airstream really likes this part, so I will probably go to an off-the-shelf replacement like I did on my Classic which will not be wired into the AI in any way.
Question is: am I interrupting any 12v circuit by unplugging the detector. I have searched the wiring diagram and I can not find the detector shown any where. I may go back tomorrow with a meter and try to suss out the connections.

I can't imagine the would "interrupt" a circuit. Nothing would be connected in series.

Ours started the 30 second interval beep on the way home from Fort Worth today... I took out the battery and it stopped. Didn't think about it being hardwired. (At least I think it was CO2 - didn't have my glasses on - but was the foreword most in our 2017 Grand Tour)

I had the dealer pull mine and replace it with a solely battery-operated unit....identical to the factory unit. Dealer would've replaced the defective unit under warranty, but their history is not good. I had to buy the replacement unit..no big deal.

The detector is no longer in production. I found one place that still claimed to have a replacement in stock, but I ended up ordering an Atwood on sale from Camping World. Even with shipping and tax, it was the best priced RV-rated detector I could find.
Not the same shape, but it will cover the traces of the old one.

Yes - the unit with 12V connection leads is no longer made. I got the identical replacement with only a 9V battery. The life of these CO detectors is shortened by being mostly outdoors in the van. After six years I've had to replace all four units in my townhouse - a more normal life span since they are indoors.

I found that with my CoStar CO2 detector.
Chunked it and bought the least expensive one from Walmart.
In my 2013 trailer there was nothing wired to the trailer's 12 volt system.
The CO2 detector I threw out was battery powered.
The CO2 detector I bought is battery powered.

FYI--CO is carbon monoxide, a dangerous gas the device in question is intended to detect. CO2 is carbon dioxide, the largest component of air and as such, not dangerous.

We replaced our 12 VDC combo detector with a Safe-T-Alert 25-741-WT White Dual CO/LP Alarm Mini. It was a simple replacement, and it is working well for us.

Make sure any replacement is fully certified to UL 1484 RV and UL 2034 RV.
There should be a 1-amp fuse connected to your where your batteries attach to the DC buss that provides power to this one item.

Your intent is correct, CO is the dangerous gas. CO2 is what we breath out, trees need, and it's only 0.04% of the atmosphere.
Nitrogen is the largest component of the atmosphere.
There's actually more Argon than CO2.
But CO is again the deadly gas formed by combustion.

What my brain thinks and what my fingers type are often two different things. I know darn well it is CO and not CO2.

CO- carbon monoxide detector- not CO2- carbon dioxide detector...

The wiring diagram for my 2012 Lounge EXT (953058S6) shows the refrigerator, CO detector, and LP detector all on the red wire coming from 12V fuse #6. The three are wired in parallel.
But then there is a red wire coming out of (going into?) the CO detector that splits and goes to the tank monitor and the 'meter fuse MF2'. Looking at the tank monitor on 953058S7 it shows the red wire coming from the CO detector to the monitor panel and a red wire coming directly from fuse 6 and going to the various tank monitor sensors. So it seems as if the monitor panel battery voltage readout might be fed from the CO detector power. I don't know what the 'meter fuse MF2' is. It is located on 953057S1, a drawing that I do not have.
So maybe you need to connect the two red wires together if you go to a battery-only CO detector. Just a guess.
On mine the smoke detector is right next to the CO detector but it is apparently battery only, as I don't see a smoke detector on the wiring schematic.

Just reread your original post, where the label says to turn off both 12V supplies. Could 'both' refer to house and chassis batteries, such that the CO detector gets power from both (either?) battery? Wouldn't this connect the house and coach batteries in a way that bypasses the BIM? The more I look at the wiring diagram the less I understand.
