Oh yes, that. That's my favorite expression. And yes, we do seem to have one at the moment!

In case anybody is wondering how this ended....

MB Roadside assistance paid for our $1,000+ brake repairs. They are now going to go after the tow truck company's insurance to get reimbursed.

We paid just under $400 for a transmission service. MB Roadside wouldn't cover that. We had it done anyways, for our own peace of mind. MB did not find any other damage when they did the service..no metal in the fluid, no anything.

Would have argued, even more than I already had, for them to pay for the transmission service, but, I had to wipe my hands of it and move on.

So, seems all will be well with the Space Shuttle when we pick her up on Monday.

Not a bad resolution, and sounds like you've handled it with a lot of common sense.

Now......back to traveling!

I take it that MB didn't check to determine if the drive shaft had been disconnected or not.

There was no way for MB to know. The vehicle was night dropped. BUT...the tow truck company swore that they DID disconnect it. And MB found no evidence of damage to transmission.

Trust me. One could tell by checking the U-joint fasteners if they had been removed or not.

Thanks for repeating that. I forgot you posted that before. We're picking the vehicle up on Monday, and I will ask them to inspect that.

Question though...even if it looks like they didn't disconnect drivetrain, where do we go with that? Since they did tranny service and have seen no evidence of damage upon inspection or driving it, then it seems that there's no damage done.

You go on your merry way, secure in the knowledge that you got lucky… this time. Same as I did when my Interstate was towed incorrectly. I've put a couple thousand miles on the van since then with no problem. Can I get a "Hallelujah!" for fine German over-engineering?

That's what i'm thinking too. And very glad to know that your AI didn't suffer damage from your own towing nightmare!
