Dump Hose Replacement

I have a 2010 Interstate 3500 with a macerator dump system. The dump hose has numerous pinholes in it and needs replacement. I ordered a new hose from "Clean Dump" and found out when I went to replace it that mine is 3/4 inch and the Clean Dump hose is 1 inch. Also, I'm not sure the 1 inch would flex enough to fit on the small roller drum. After searching the internet, I could not find a 3/4 inch dump hose. Has anyone replaced their hose and where did you get it?

Welcome to the Airforums.

That's one piece of hardware that I don't have any manual on. Would a 3/4 inch piece of clear tubing work? Or a piece of 3/4 inch garden hose?

Are the pinholes near the discharge end of the hose? Mine developed a couple of holes near the end early on until I learned how to put it away without kinking it. I was able to cut about 18" off of the end and reattach the shutoff valve. Problem solved. Perhaps this could work for you?

I have to admit, this one had me puzzled as I thought it was 1" I.D.

But I believe the reel is the same as the one the below company sells. At least, it appears to be, and the unit comes with 20' of 3/4" hose-so it sounds like it's the same.

Shoreline Reels® | Technology Research, LLC

I'd give them a call and see if they can give you a source for the hose they use. They may even send you a replacement.

This one available at Tractor Supply if you have one nearby and would also likely work if it was flexible enough:

Abbott Rubber EPDM Rubber Spray Hose, 3/4 in. ID x 25 ft. | TractorSupply

The EPDM makes it perfect and likely better than the original.

Hope that helps.

The Cleandump website has a 3/4" to 1" adapter - under Accessories. I wonder if you can use that. Otherwise try calling them. (360) 798-2437.

I think the problem may be there may not be sufficient space for a 1" hose on the reel. If there was, I'd recommend Kanaflex 300 EPDM, available locally.

Clean Dump is the OEM, so their hose will fit; it already does fit. Beware when you talk sizes because a 1" OD (outside diameter) hose is exactly the same as a 3/4" ID (inside diameter) hose.

Thanks to all of you for responding. I was waiting for an email notification of responses, but got none. So I decided to check the forum and . . . wow.
Since I don't know how to reply to each of you, I will do it in this one post.

73shark - Clear tubing won't work because is collapses and kinks easily. Good quality garden hose WILL work, and that was going to be my last resort.
Kwils25 - There are about 8 holes in the first 8 feet. Then another 3-4 near the end that attaches to the reel.
Gmillerok1 - Shoreline Reels does not show anything that matches the configuration on my RV. One that comes close is for storing electric cord. Rubber hose was going to be my last resort. Your last comment about not enough space for 1 inch ID hose is correct.
UKdude - I could get the adapter, but the 1 inch ID hose won't fit on the reel. Also, it's not flexible enough.
Avionstream - Local Airstream guys are just sales oriented. Parts dept. is useless. Calling Airstream myself was on my punch list.
Protagonist - Clean Dump hose will not fit. That's where I purchased the one that I have. It is 1 inch ID, mine is 3/4 inch ID. The reel does not have enough space nor flexibility for 1 inch ID hose. Clean Dump does not sell 3/4 inch ID.

Today, I finally made some progress. I found what I needed from US Plastics. It is called Rollerflex 4000, has a 3/4 inch ID, with a spiral helix to prevent collapse, smooth inside and outside, has a bend radius of 3 inches, and is exactly like what is on my RV now. They do have many different sizes and types of hoses.

I also talked to a Roadtrek dealer, and he said they have all gone to 1 inch ID hose with macerator pumps.

Thanks again to all of you for your ideas and suggestions.

That is weird, because mine came equipped straight from Jackson Center with a Clean Dump reel and hose. But it wouldn't be the first time Airstream has changed product specifications without telling anyone…

I see your RV is a 2012 and mine is a 2010 which could explain the difference. There may have been problems with the 3/4" hose so they changed it. I do wish my hose was 1 inch ID, then the "stuff" would flow better and the macerator would not have to work so hard. Thank you for your input.

I could be wrong - I am frequently - but looking on the Interstate Parts Manual on the Airstream website, the macerator assembly is comprised of the following parts:

512323 Hose reel w/hose, macerator pump
1. 602205-02 Mounting bracket
2. 602176 Macerator pump
3. 454692 Bracket, drain plumbing
4. 340084-20 Clamp, hose, stainless steel
5. 454693 Box, macerator pump hose reel
6. 454724-01 Closeout, LH Side Mas. Pump
7. 454724-02 Closeout, RH Mas. Pump
203666 Closeout, Macerator Compt., Abs
203225-01 Trim lok, gray
601197-02 Water Hook-Up, Chrome
602186 Hose, 20” flex
454683 Hose reel mounting bracket
602205-01 20 amp switch
602205-03 ¼”, self-tapping screws
602205-07 Adapter, .75" Barb Macerator
602205-08 Hose, .75" X 12" Transparent
602205-09 Adapter Valve, 1" To .75", Macerator
602205-10 Valve, drip proof, w/2 adaptor for reel hose
602205-11 Hose clamp, stainless steel, 1”
602205-12 Instruction sticker

I cannot tell from the diagram, but it does mention "adapter" and 1" to .75". Could that possibly refer to something that allows a 1" hose to be attached?

Wow UKdude, that is very interesting information, and answers some questions. Notice that there are several connectors, all 0.75", which means that they DID use 3/4" hose. But the most interesting is the adapter that you pointed out, the one that takes the original fitting (1") down to 3/4". The question is why did they do that? I'm guessing that the 1" hose did not fit well on the spool of the reel either because of bend radius or that it they couldn't get the length they wanted, or that it didn't flex well. Either way, your parts list shows that 3/4" was used, at least for 2010. Protagonist says that his 2012 has the 1". Maybe they used a different reel to accommodate the 1" hose after 2010. (By the way, all diameters mentioned are inside diameter.) Very interesting info. Thank you.

Actually, they do-see RV Black/Gray Water Hose | Technology Research, LLC

Note the 3/4" specification and the color hose. It doesn't say if it's 3/4" I.D. or O.D., though. It sure looks the same to me.

FWIW, I just cut off 12" from the dump hose on my 2013 AI: 1" OD, 3/4 ID. I cut it off because of two pin-hole leaks near the end. It was a bit too long anyway, binding on the wheel in the last bit of winding - perhaps the cause of the pinhole leaks. Easy way to find (and maybe cause?) pin hole leaks it to momentarily turn on the pump with the valve at the end of the hose in the closed position. Figured getting a replacement when the time comes would not be difficult, but after reading this thread I am not so sure.

I also confirmed from the 2011 parts manual that it is indeed a 1" O.D. and .75" I.D. flex hose. I imagine you can get order it from an Airstream dealer at a highly marked up price.

Mine also has a label on the door that refers to the Clean Dump system. But I can't find anything from Clean Dump that relates to any reel/hose combination nor any mention in the parts manual. Makes me wonder what exactly Clean Dump provides.

They definitely provide the end fitting with the valve and the PVC cap with a hole drilled through for attaching to the dump station, at the very least. I know because I had to buy a replacement from them— listed on their website as "Drip-proof Shut-off Valve."

Saw that, but physical size and configuration are no match.

I use a 20' 1" clear tubing as an extension so I can dump into my sewer at home. Never had any problem w/ it kinking and I coil it into a 12" coil for storage. It is a moderately thick wall and came from BORG (Big Orange Retail Giant).

Glad you found something that will work for you. And this was a good way to reply to all.
