DRLs on 2008 Sprinter

Has anyone tried the procedure to disable the DRLs on a '08 Sprinter? MB calls this "Constant Headlamp Mode" and there is a procedure in the Owners Manual that will let you disable this feature. I would like to gain control of my lights so that I can make sure they are off when pulling into a camping spot late at night. There is also the backup alarm to deal with for the same scenario. Anyone have any bright ideas on that one. An OFF switch that timed out after say 2 minutes and reverted to ON would be ideal. Don't know if such a thing exists.

I had both on my '11 Sprinter 2500. I was able to disable the DRLs from the dash by toggling thru the settings and following the instructions in the manual (it's been 2-1/2 years and I don't recall the exact sequence).

As for the back-up alarm, I simply located the beeper device under the van and disconnected it. It can easily be re-connected at any time, as can the DRLs.

Re. DRLs; The procedure is in my manual also but I can't try it as my Interstate and I are not in the same place.

Re. backup alarm; if the alarm was provided by MB (on mine, it apparently was as it shows up as it shows up as SA Code JW0-Backup Warning System on my Data Card), the Owner's Manual shows a way to turn down the volume. From the manual:
"Reducing the volume of the warning signal

Select reverse gear twice in quick succession.
The warning signal sounds more quietly."

Anyone tried this?

On my 06 sprinter, I only had to pull a fuse under the driver's seat. Cannot remember which one. Yours may be dif. Try the sprinter forum search, there was quite a discussion about this issue years ago. Sprinter.com. Jim

Jim, are you talking about the DRLs or the backup alarm?

My Interstate is long gone. Lewis says all changed in a later year. He is the expert and I would trust him. Like I said, go to Sprinter forum.com for info. Jim

I tried the procedure for the backup alarm but no joy. The DRL's were modified using Starscan at a ex-Dodge dealer now independent repair shop. They had a flat rate of $50 for any electronic diagnosis.

Hi Ben,

By "modified" I assume you mean disabled? i.e. you have no headlights on unless you turn them on manually?

Sorry; correct I had the DRL's disabled. It was buried in the menu in Starscan but it was there. Since mine is a 2008 Freightliner it should be the same.

Mine is also on a 2008 chassis and to turn off DRL daytime running lights you can just scroll through menu on dash computer to turn off or back on.
