Driving light recommendations 2016 interstate ??
Hi all. Just back from a couple of weeks to east coast of canada. A couple of times we were on two lane roads with beware of moose and or deer signs. Interested to know any recommendations on getting more light in front to see what's on the road or side of road. I looked into LED light bulbs for headlights and LED Light bar either on the step of front bumper or up higher on top of cab. Any help is appreciated. I did find the tread on a light bar in bumper step. Thanks. Cam

I'm interested in any replies to this thread, especially because the situation for T1N Interstate owners is considerably worse. T1Ns don't have projector headlights, nor have any aftermarket solutions been developed. At least the NCV3s have projectors.
It's not possible to drive across New Brunswick without getting the bejeepers scared out of you by the signage that has been posted.

Yes. Saw a lot of those signs. There is 300 km of moose fence up to try to cut down on collisions. Yet 300 moose collisions still occur often with fatal results for both moose and drivers.

You can minimize the risk by not driving in the dark. If you have to drive at dusk or in the dark slow down and stay alert as the signs suggest. Even with better lighting driving slower will help your chances of avoiding a fatal collision.

The OEM headlights on my TV were dismal. I switched to LED bulbs, but that presented other problems. My TV is a 1999 Dodge 2500 diesel with its its own unique electrical system. As well, the issue with LED headlight bulbs is that if the fins on the cooling unit get clogged with dirt, they will overheat and cause damage. The tech who installed my dashcam suggested Xenon headlight bulbs. He added a relay for compatibility with the Dodge's electrical system and it all works well. These lights are extremely bright. They also draw only 35-watts each. They have ballast transformers to boost the voltage from 12-V to 23KV.

When i got my 2016, first thing i did was changed the factory HID bulb with aftermarket, 6000k color. For my fog lamps, i changed to CANBUS HID so it does not detect it as bulb out.
So far, i am satisfied with the light output specially with fog lights on.
I still prefer HID compared to LEDs as high output ones have heat sinks, some have fans to keep cool. This means they are bulky and not easy to install specially on tight areas.

For the headlights, D3S HID bulb. Fog light is 9006-HB4 type HID.
Headlight is easy as you simply replace the existing HID bulb. For the fog lights, you will need to buy the HID kit (ballast, hid bulb, cable) and make sure the hid bulb has that type i mentioned above. Cable length is decent so i simply put in 3m take and attached to the side. Make sure it is CANBUS compatible otherwise the moment you turn the fog on, you will see bulb out warning on the dash

Hi
If you intend to drive many places with "improved" lights, be aware that in the US, this stuff is regulated at the state level. Yes that's bizarre. What you can put on the front of a truck in one state is illegal in the next state over.

Brighter than Halogen
Check out the Lumen® - G7, G7s, & G8 LED Headlight Conversion Kits for Sprinters. Output varies by bulb choice up to 6000 lumens and built-in load resistors prevent error messages from the CAN Bus systems.

Holy mother - this ^^ guy is amazing! I'm in an email exchange with him right now over what might be do-able to improve the T1N headlights.
Here's just one of the many aspects of this issue to which he has drawn my attention:

I talked to the guys at outside van since they install driving lights in the step above the front bumper. According to them there are no issues doing this. The intercooler and rad fan are above this opening.
I picked up a rigid 20 inch light bar. Will post some pics when I get it installed. Looking forward to seeing the moose and deer at nights when this is installed
