I believe the dealer told me my 2012 Sprinter had an 8.5 gallon DEF tank. I had the light come one the first time just about 8k. I added 1 gallon (not having any idea how big the tank was) light stayed on. Added 2nd gallon, light went off then came back same day. Added 3rd gallon and was fine. 2k miles later when it went in for it's first service they added 5.5 gallons to bring it up to full.

I would have never guessed it held that much. In hinds site, the 2.5 gallons boxes they sell should have been a tip that a single gallon wasn't going to take me very far.

The DEF tank holds about five gallons. Was glad the DEF that I bought came w/ flex hose spouts that were small enuf to fit that ridiculously small hole in the fill tube.

Had to add a gallon last summer when on vacation w/o a funnel and had to make one w/ aluminum foil. Not sure what they were thinking when they designed that.

Could be worse; if you buy from the Mercedes Benz parts department, they sell DEF in one-liter bottles, and filling up the tank will set you back close to $200.
