Dash Camera installation

I have a 2015 AI Grand Tour. I have heard that there are (switched?) power connectors in the courtesy light cluster mounted behind the rear view mirror. I would like to connect my dash camera to the light cluster rather than routing wire down to the cigarette lighter if possible. I see there is what may be a pop-off access panel on the cluster.

Does anyone know about 12V connections in the courtesy light cluster?

Are there other suggestions about wiring a dash cam to a 2015 AI?

Thanks

Pull the center console off by pulling gently on the curbside down and then pulling it to the right to release the left side.

The backup mirror is powered by a red 12vdc wire that easy to find(at least on mine). You can tap into a keyed 12vdc power source there, that's on when the ignition is on. and a ground in the same location. That's what I did. There is also a powered connection in that overhead with the snap out panel but I haven't tested it to confirm.

I also used the red wire for the switched power. I couldn't identify a non-switched source other than the light cluster itself, which I didn't want to mess with, so I ran a wire down the driver side post into the fuse box. There's a side air bag in the post that freaked me out a bit, but it and I survived.

I found descriptions for popping the light cluster and the post trim on the web. In short, everything pulls off. Pull gently...

When I installed my dash camera, a BlackVue, I connected it to constant power so it is also a security camera. Since I have lots of extra solar there is no worry about running the chassis battery down.

I connected mine to the cigarette lighter and hid the wire along the edges of windshield and under floor mat. It looks neat with no wire hanging in view. It took me less than 5 minutes and I can easily transfer to another vehicle if needed.

I connected mine to the 12V outlet below the ash tray in lower center pedestal. It is always on.
