Cleaning front wheels and chipping paint

Shortly after getting our new airstream we took it for a akin trip in Tahoe. When I had it washed after we got back there were black circles about where the lug nuts are for the front wheels that they were unable to remove. When I asked them to try a little harder I was told it was taking off the paint.

Anyone else having this issue? Suggestions if so?

(I took this picture just now. We just returned from a trip if the California coast. Most of this will clean up, but I wanted to show the lines I was referring to)

Strange! Do both front wheels look the same? It looks like something was rubbing on the wheel?

Question Been on the back/dirt roads?

I've seen truck wheels do the same, the center of the wheel protrudes well into the slipstream, lugs cause turbulence, road debris sandblasts the paint. the lugs have chrome caps or solid?

So when is this..."old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?
