Changing half wardrobe door swing
Thinking about changing the half wardrobe door swing. Using the wardrobe when the bed is made (which is nearly all the time) is not ideal.
I've read that some folks have done this but the data pertaining to clearance issues and or problems with the new door swing are slim to none. Anyone who has performed this change have any pictures they would be willing to share.
Thank you.

Well, it's not an Interstate but the bath door swing was inconvenient on our Flying Cloud Rear Bed model, so we unscrewed the door and it's piano hinge from the jamb, turned it upside down and screwed the door and hinge (pre-drill the screw holes so the wood doesn't split) to the opposite side. Moved the latch to the opposite jamb, and filled the exposed screw holes with matching wood filler.

No clearance issues at all with the door swing change. Makes life so much better when bed is made up. No pics.
You aren't risking much to do this. If (not going to happen), you don't like it once you nave made the change you can put it back to original anytime you want as the holes are already there.

Changing half wardrobe door swing
Cheryl, thank you for your input.
Ron, thank you too. Was it just a matter of removing the door, replicating the mounting holes on the other side, moving the hinge mount and catch hardware then rotate the door 180 degrees?
Good to hear there are no clearance issues. I was afraid that the other cabinet side would not allow a big a door swing compared to the bathroom door side.

Yes, The latch will now be upside down when you flip the door but it works perfectly that way.
Do your hinges first, double check your measurements, then drill small pilot holes.
Then, take your latch and mount it.

If the door is symmetrical top to bottom there shouldn't be a reason not to just flip it, as mentioned above, and moving the handle height to match the other door.
If the door is not symmetrical top to bottom you will have to remove the hinge from the door and remount it on the other side. Still having to remount the handle.

Here is a photo of my wardrobe door flipped. There are no clearance issues. Probably the simplest mod I've made to my Interstate with the biggest benefit. Airstream would install this door as shown if their designers ever really used the vehicles they design.

We flipped ours too. Well, we had them do it at Jackson Center when we were there last July. I think they charged us maybe $30 or so to do it.
Like Boxster1971 said...if they actually used the vehicles they design, it would be this way right out of the factory.

Thank you all for the input on this little project. The mod is now complete. Took me a little over half an hour. Man my wife will be happy. She has no idea I just did this.

Thanks Mike. Now I've got to wire in some USB outlets in the side of the galley like you have.

Mine didn't come with a wardrobe but I wish it did! If I add one, I would do this mod.... looks very useful.

I did the same and ad a larger mirror inside the door. Made the wife happy.
I also found out that my cabinet in the rear just sunk down investigating it more all the brackets in the rear broke. Airstream just did not wanted to comment on my problem so I fixed it me self with a bracket under the rear board and replaced the plastic brackets with metal.
I only use it with 2 shelves to store light close.
It started about 18 month ago with the door constant came open and the door screw can loose.
Watch it before it breaks down.
