My 2007 First Alert CO detector (3 AAA batteries) started beeping this week and wouldn't stop unless I took it outside and waved it around. Battery replacement didn't help. It had some corrosion on two connections apparently from the prior owner having one or two leaked batteries sometime before I bought the Safari last year. First Alert customer service didn't even have specs for this unit anymore, but told me that their units now have 5- or 10-year warranties, and they consider the warranty period to be the usage life, so my old unit should be replaced no matter what caused the beeping. When fooling around could result in my death, I will follow their advice and replace the unit.
