1989 Ford Airstream? Unless it's a "vintage" motorhome with a Ford engine in it, I don't recall such a beast myself...but that doesn't mean such a beast doesn't exist.....

Ford van

I just spotted a Ford Airstream conversion van at South of the Border Friday night. We were pulling out at the same time. It's like a B-Van. My wife thought it was funny that it was a Ford, as the big rigs, at least older ones, were built on Chevy chasis'.

Rob

If it was you, hello...and yes, I had the 34' going th wrong way on a one way - that's another story.

The B Van has used various chassis. How about a photo of your purchase? Its the engine that doesn't seem to match up..I don't recall a 460 in a one ton van chassis, but that doe not mean it did not happen.

This forum is the BEST place for you to be; everyone will help you.

But I'm going to chime in my two cents' worth....

If you like it, it's NO mistake. It sounds like a COOL vehicle.

Conversion van....
Made them in the 80's and part of the 90's....
Made them as a "complimentary" tow vehicle. Came with the 460 as an option, I think. My dad sold Airstreams back in the day and that's one of the things that they had back then.
They also did a Suburban for a few model years too. Not as nicely equipped as the Ford van though but painted a cool Airstream silver.
Never heard of a vintage motorhome with a Ford power train in it...

Ford/Airstream

I saw one of these in Stone Mountain, Ga., back after Christmas. It looked really similar to the silver painted one in the background of your picture No.1. It had Tennessee tags, if I remember correctly. It was parked at a Burger Biggee place as I was driving by and since I was working, I didn’t have time to stop at look up the owner. I did sit at the traffic light long enough to do a double take on the Airstream logo across the front. The van looked more like an early ‘90’s (I drive a ‘96 at work, so I’m somewhat familiar with the styles).

What Flamingo said, if you like it, that’s what matters. It sounds like it might be kinda kool. Pictures, pictures, pictures!

Just my 2 cents. Enjoy your new “toy”!

Jim

Airstream "B" Van

I have seen several of these over the years, they have currently been replaced by the new one on the Sprinter Chassis. As far as I know they are an Airstream and considered so by WBCCI. I met one lady in Holbrook, AZ that used hers to go back and forth between her home in Colorado and her Airstream TT in Arizona.

It's Airstream's Class B of the mid 80's to mid90's.
seen many of them, all with 460 V8's.
It's legit.

No Mistake

Yes, Airstream marketed their "B-190" motor home for several years. They have come to be refered to as just "B Vans". The "190" refers to the 19 foot body measurement.
They ARE recognized as an Airstream by the WBCCI club. We have about 3 or 4 of them in my WBCCI unit.
The models, prior to 1992, looked like those pictured: the tan one is very rare (so if you have a tan B Van you have one of only a handful made) and after the 1st year, when most of them were silver, all of them were painted silver with blue trim.
In 1992, the design of the Ford van changed but B Vans were built on the new Ford van offerings. Somewhere along the line the fiberglass top was redesigned a bit but not significantly.
Yup, they came with the 460 c.i. engines and I believe a few of the last ones had the Ford V-10 engine. I've never seen one with any engine smaller than the 460.
So, Jay, if it's in good shape and suits your purposes, you did not make a mistake. It's an Airstream product.

You mean like a GMC or Chevy Suburban? What years did they make those? Anyone have a picture?

Late reply from skipj, I have a 92 with the 460. I understand Airstream bought the rights to the B-van from a Canadian manufacturer. Saw several Okanagans out West this spring, or the same one twice.
