How was it held on originally? If it was a matter of screws pulling thru the fiberglass, then one could add a body washer to the screw which would spread the load.

Body trim step broken

On my 2016 Grand Tour EXT, the body trim step is simply a fiberglass cover for a metal step that carries the weight of the driver as he/she enters the vehicle. The fiberglass cover is connected to the metal component by double-sided tape. On my unit, the tape failed on the driver's side and the fiberglass cover came loose. The fiberglass step cover is part of a larger fiberglass piece that runs from the below the diriver's door back to the rear tire well. When the front step cover comes loose, it remains connected to the piece that runs back to the rear tires. My unit is still under warranty and the selling dealer is supposed to reattach my step cover next week. The service manager told me that he does not think the double-sided tape is robust enough and he may try some other adhesive. While waiting for the dealer fix, I have tied the fiberglass cover to the step with a fabric strap.
