What you really
need is an interlock so that you cannot start the engine with the awning extended, and cannot extend the awning with the engine running.
On edit— That was dumb. Instead, it should be a duplicate of the sliding step's controls. You can't extend it when the engine is running. And it automatically retracts when you start the engine.
