Bath door

Has anyone reversed the swing on the door so it opens toward the front of the van?
Seems it would make entry easier and provIde better privacy.

Thought about it but never did it. Might hit the counter before full open tho.

I did change the extension so it is out permanently.

No I never thought of trying that. My biggest complaint with my recently traded off Airstream was with the stupid non-door on the other half of the bath opening. I knew it was like that when we bought it and I felt I could live with it. We did for 10 months. No more. And there were other reasons we traded it away for a Roadtrek.

But one thought I had was to reverse the non-door. It has a full hinge on the wrong side. Use a fine tooth saw and cut the vertical door divider and attach it to the front non-door and design a special latch to hold them both closed when not being used and then it would allow both doors to be open when using the bath. We placed a big towel on the floor in the hallway anyway so by having the doors both openable it would have made the shower more friendly when using the curtain. AI has some things to learn and they may one day.

Wouldn't work on mine. I have the lounge/wardrobe model, and the bathroom door would strike the wardrobe closet door before coming fully open. Might be the same on the other models as well, because the bathroom door would strike the galley countertop.

The door is hinged where the bathroom is narrowest and the aisle is widest, and the door is just barely narrower than the aisle at that point.

Even if it did work, it would provide LESS privacy, because the toilet would be visible from the open door. And since the door has no lock, it would be possible for someone walking in on you to see it all. As designed, if someone opens the door while you're on the toilet, they see your feet before the rest of you. Not a problem for me as a solo traveler, but I'm in the minority in that regard.

simple

Reversed the bath door today.
Just flipped it with hinge still attached to door - port hole
now on bottom half but took only 30 minutes and it should be fine.
May redo so porthole will be near top but want to be sure we are happy with new set up first.

I don't full understand benefits of reversing door. I guess it would be easier to get into bath at night from the bed and some improved privacy. But it doesn't seem worth the bother.

Not to mention that you can no longer open it fully.

it works

we have a 2014 ext with full wardrobe and 2 jump seats in rear so the galley is shifted forward and the reversed door swings freely.
