Annoying buzzer sound
Has anyone had a high pitched intermittent buzzer sound come from the dash area of an Interstate. I have a 2012 Interstate and every now and then for no reason I get a high pitched buzzer or beep sound. When it happens there are no warning lights or messages. Airstream says they have no idea and Mercedes says the same. I can't replicate it for them because I don't know why or when it might happen. It might happen 5 or 6 times on a long drive or not at all. I actually recorded the sound with my phone so I can replay it for the Mercedes dealer when I take it in again but they seemed clueless when I described for them. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Could be the awning alarm. If awning pops out just a little it will trip an alarm buzzer installed by Airstream. It is actually mounted inside the compartment above the sliding door step but can be hard to tell where it comes from when it goes off. It can be intermittent if the awning is just out far enough to barely trip the alarm. There is a micro switch in the rear awning housing that controls the alarm.
When mine went off one I stopped cycled the awning out a few inches and then back in and alarm stopped.

I agree with Boxster1971, same has happened with my awning. Just recycled the extend/retract switch a bit and made it stop. Very touchy- high crosswinds seem to set it off occasionally.

It's not the awning warning alarm. I tried to replicate the warning by leaving the awning extended out slightly and driving. But my alarm does not go off so I don't think my alarm is even working. Also I tried taking the fuse out and making the step and awning inoperable and I still had the beep/buzzer sound. Thanks for your suggestions though.

I have a 2015 and it happened to me last week right after I started the engine. No warning lights on the dash. The sound is different than the awning warning as I have had that problem in the past until I had the awning adjusted. There is an older discussion re this on the sprinter forum. http://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32702
In that discussion a few people suggest that it could be the parking brake being up just one click which does not activate the warning light on the dash. I'm going to try that the next time. I do remember that when I had the beeping I did pull the brake up all the way and then released it. I can't recall if that was when I got the beeping to stop. With respect to Mercedes dealers I have found that few have technicians that really know the sprinter well. You will see in the discussion on the sprinter forum that more than a few people reported that their technicians said that some sprinters just do this and you have to live with it. That's not acceptable service. I hope this helps.

Do you have the radio or other audio playing when you get this sound?

Next time it happens, turn off your fan or adjust the vents in the dash. I had a similar noise in a different vehicle and it was the dash vents vibrating at random. Sometimes no noise, other times an annoying buzz.

No radio or audio on when the noise happens. Also nothing from air vents. This is a very loud high pitched beep or buzzer sound. Very distinct.

I had something similar happen a few weeks ago. Definitely came from under the dash. Took the key out, closed the door and went inside my house. Came back a few minutes later and it had stopped and hasn't done it again.
Near as I could tell after doing a search, it was related to a start up sequence that the van didn't like such as starting the engine with the drivers door open. I was getting ready for a trip and was in and out and such and may have done so.

What you describe happened to me yesterday for the first time ever. Started the engine with drivers door open, alarm from dash area started ringing and would not stop when I removed the key. I put the key back in restarted and alarm continued for a few more minutes then stopped. No explanation. I have owned two AI's since 2009 and I have never experienced that issue before.

OK - over on the Sprinter Forum several owners have reported an alarm buzzer going off when starting the engine with the door open on newer Sprinters.

Indeed this happened to us shortly after we purchased our 2016. Did a google search on my phone and the first hit was that and problem was resolved.

I need to clarify my description of the sound. It only lasts for a second or two when it goes off. It is not continuous. It may happen once on a 4 hour drive or it may happen 5 or 6 times.
I tried to replicate the awning alarm to see if it sounds similar but am unable to get the alarm to go off. I tried leaving my awning extended a couple of inches and driving around a parking lot but nothing happens. So maybe I have a bad awning alarm that is going off when it shouldn't? Is there any way someone could record the awning alarm and send the recording so I could listen to it? It has never gone off on my Interstate so I don't know what it sounds like. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Could it be the smoke alarm or carbon monoxide detector? Sometimes sounds from the back of the coach can sound like they are coming from the front.. If they are malfunctioning they might go off for a bit then shut off..

This too happened to us. Braked too quickly and a few bags we had in the back of the isle moved forward. Then every time I would turn, the bag would push the alarm test button near the floor or not. Took a few miles to figure out what it was.
One other noise source: the water heater! It makes a high pitched sound when you feed it power. The noise is from the controller board and I can only hear it in the back of the van. But people with better hearing may hear it forward. Flexing of the control board as you drive changes the sound.

Here's another suggestion: the distance sensors are very sensitive; they can be triggered by anyone or any thing getting too close. Is it possible you have dirt, squashed bug, etc on any one of them?

Maybe you don't have them on yours, but they are a proximity warning system with sensors embedded in the front and back moldings. When you start to get close to objects, it starts beeping with lights flashing on a display at the forward end of the dash by the windscreen (for the front sensors) and on the door mirrors for the rear sensors.

Asheville has a 2012 Interstate - they don't have the proximity sensors. So far this is sounding like a wiring problem (intermittent short) that is causing the alarm buzzer in the dash to go off intermittently. That is the buzzer associated with not using a seatbelt, leaving lights on etc..
Probably not serious , but certainly annoying.
