Airstream Vin Number
Does anyone know what the number on the owners manual that comes from the factory mean.
The van was built by MB in 2004 and delivered by Airstream in September 2005. The factory Vin is 301585.
An Airstream employee said the numbers had no real meaning except ID the unit.

Vehicle Identification Number. Used to register title, get license plates warranty from Airstream also should be longer than what you have posted. You should find a tag on the front drivers side of your coach that has the Vin and manufacture date on it.

In the B190s, there are two VINs. One is the Ford VIN ("1F..."), in the usual place under the windshield, driver's side. This is what we use to register the vehicle. The second is the Airstream VIN. In the B190, it's mounted under the hood. I don't know if Airstream still does it this way, but it wouldn't surprise me.

The VIN is more like 17 digits and should be on a placard somewhere on the vehicle.

Roger,
My 2010 Interstate actually has 2 17 digit VINs. The one attached by MB can be found at several locations on the van and is the one you can see through the windshield on the driver's side. Mine is WDYPF4455XXXXXX.This is the VIN used to register your vehicle and it is the number shown on the Certificate of Origin. The Airstream VIN is also 17 digits and can be thought of as a Serial Number. Mine is 1B9WUWF25AXXXXXX. In any of my communications with Airstream, they identify my vehicle using the last 6 digits of the Airstream VIN. This number is on the selling dealer's purchase documents and the last 6 digits are on the little fob attached to the owner documentation briefcase. It is probably on the vehicle somewhere but I haven't found it. Anyone know where it is?
Cheers,
Wayne

Airstream Company Number
Yes this is the answer. When I telephone for parts they want the Airstream six digit number. Certain other items require the registration Vin number.
My question is --does this six digit number mean it was number ------ built. In other words how many of these units where built in each year of the Sprinter line since 2004.

I don't know, but it would be a reasonable guess. If you want to know for sure, send Jim Parrett an email to jparrett@airstream.com. Jim is the Sr. guy in tech support for the AS motorhomes and has always be quite helpful to me in answering my endless questions.
Let me know what he has to say.

Number requested by Airstream
When Airstream asked me for my six digit number they told me that it's the last 6 digits of the 17 digit VIN.

On my 2006 Interstate, the Airstream VIN (different from the Dodge VIN) is found on a sticker in a cupboard over my kitchen counter.

According to a downloaded Sprinter parts manual, in the 17-digit Mercedes Benz (or Dodge, or Freightliner) Sprinter VIN, the digits are as follows:
1 - country of origin;
2 - vehicle make;
3 - vehicle type;
4 - drive (two-wheel or four-wheel drive; duals count as two-wheel drive);
5 - line;
6 - series;
7 - body style;
8 - engine;
9 - check digit (no meaning for owners);
10 - model year;
11 - assembly line;
12to17 - number off the assembly line for the model year.
Hope this helps.
