Airstream Interstate = puppy

The uniqueness of the Airstream Interstate and Sprinter Class B RVs has been mentioned often here and is one of the reasons we bought one. However, there is one phenomenon that we were not prepared for. This vehicle is a conversation starter like no other since the invention of the puppy. Just about every time we stopped (fuel, food, rest stop) on a recent road trip to FL someone would approach and ask about the bus. I doubt that the big Class A owners get the attention that we get. Interblog was right when she said to budget time on trips to give tours!

Agree completely. We have a beautiful 45 ft Prevost Bus and we get way more attention, and questions when we drive the AI. More than once we have had cars drive beside us slowing and pointing at us. Once a guy even rolled his window down and motioned for me to do the same. I thought something must be wrong with a tire or the jeep we were towing but no, he just shouted "What is that", we want one.

We had some crazy kid today roll down the window waving crazily at us and giving us a thumbs up before driving off.

Non-RV-owners seem to have no clue how much they cost, either. I've had several people stop to admire my Interstate in the past few years, and then tell me, "Wow! That must have set you back about forty grand!" If only they knew…

I was driving on the freeway one time and a California Higway Patrol got my attention and gave me a thumbs up. I was shocked to say the least.

Yeah, whenever they stop by our Airstream in the campground and after ogling ask straight out, "How much", we just change the subject.

I have the perfect vague answer to the how much question.

I say it is about as much as a nice truck.

Now since that is such a subjective answer, it usually satisfies people without getting into any specifics.

But they understand that is more than the 10 or 15 K that they imagine or may know that a small SOB trailer costs.

If one is very shrewd and very patient, an older T1N might be had for that.

I had one of our neighbors ask me the money question the day before yesterday. I told her what we paid and then what we invested into it (the neighborhood has been watching us build our "dream car" as she called it). She was pleasantly surprised. She expected it to cost more.

You get lots of attention with a trailer for sure.
It's iconic I guess.

Sprinter gets attention too

We don't have an Interstate, but our 2015 Sprinter passenger van is often mistaken for an Interstate RV. People aren't very familiar with the Sprinter or the Interstate so they are awe-struck upon seeming one. They are beautiful looking vehicles I must say.

I also dislike that flat out question, and change the subject. But this is a great way to go about it!

lol no doubt. Part of me wishes I had sprung for the interstate, they are just so cool.

Now look at that.. I'M AN AIRSTREAM OWNER, and I still drool over the interstates.

I think pulling a trailer with an Airstream (as several do here) would be the ultimate.

Have given the "tour" several times. First one was a pair of Game Wardens in Tennessee ( while parked in a Home Depot ). Second was in a Flying J fuel lane, for a lady in the next lane driving a "huge" class A. Another was local LEO that pulled alongside with a smile and a "thumbs up!"

I am an owner of AI from January, and wherever I am hanging - everyone want to look inside, from techs in Discout-Tires to strangers just approaching on a gas station. )))

To my beleive, such an interest of people to these vans is because it looks not as bulky RV but like a regular van with a slick design though ergonomical accommodation.
