Air Forums app for Android

The last "upgrade" leaves a lot to be desired as far as I'm concerned. While I've finally figured out how to use, it no longer notifies me of new posts in subscribe threads like the previous iteration did. Is there something I'm missing here? Wouldn't be the first time.

Open up your settings and make sure you have the notifications set up the way you want. I typically don't subscribe to threads so I don't know if works or not. I just got the app update and it works well on my Nexus 7 with KitKat. Haven't had a chance to try it on the Jellybean phones yet.

From the sounds of it the Android App is doing better than the iOS version.

When you subscribe using the app, it sets the notification to "none." If you want to change that, you have to go to the web. I haven't noticed this changing in recent versions of the app versus older versions. It's been that way, I think, since I've used the app. You can also change, within the app settings, whether or not the app notifies you in the status bar if you have new posts in subscribed threads.

Went to notifications in the app and it said "None" so went to Settings and all of the topics were checked and it said they were "On".

Where do I need to go on the web?

Asked and unanswered in an earlier thread =

I checked the Android version from the PlayStore but I always inspect the app permissions before activation. Why does it want permission to:

1 - install a shortcut and also run at start-up?
2 - find other accounts on my phone?
3 - use accounts on my phone?
4 - access protected storage and USB connected devices?
5 - prevent my phone from sleeping?

Maybe a moderator knows?

See attached PDF. It's easier to show than explain.

Once you have changed your notifications on the web, you will receive both an email from airforums.com and get an icon on your tablet when there are new posts in your subscribed threads. The only notification I ever use is "instant" so I am not sure of the icon/app behavior if you select daily or weekly notifications. If you find the icon/app notices on your phone/tablet to be redundant to the emails, then go in to the settings on the app and uncheck the "push notifications" and you will no longer get the icon.

***please note that I am not the programmer of the app, I just happen to have found the same issue myself when I first started using the app***

As mentioned in my previous reply, I am not the programmer so I cannot say for sure why the app asks for these permissions. But, I can say that I think pretty much all apps request these permissions and usually more. I think it's kinda a standard thing, just like installing software to your PC. Any piece of (decent) software has an EULA or Terms and Conditions that you must agree to before it will install. Some of those conditions are pretty outlandish, nevertheless if you want to use the program, you have to agree.

I just noticed that the app updated for me this morning. There's a few new things to learn, but overall I think it's more functional.

The notification settings are a little different, and the "push" option is no longer there. I guess we'll see how the updated app behaves as far as icon notifications and how it sets the notification check box on the web.

Well I just got a notice of this post so I'm guessing you're working better now.
