Additional battery boxes needed

I had my battery boxes "enlarged" to accept the GPL-4CT 220Ah batteries. Not it's time to add two more batteries on the other side of the coach but the dealer today says it will be three weeks to get new battery boxes in and we need them sooner for an upcoming trip.

Anybody know where I can locate more battery boxes?

Thanks,
Mark

I think at least one member on this site made his own boxes. I'll see if I can find the post. Maybe you could reach out to them for the drawings to see if a local welder can make a set for you.

Mike, aka Boxster1971, also made his own under-mount brackets.

Maybe one of these folks would be willing to share their design and you can replicate it.

Good luck!

After the crazy quote i got for a bracket from the local dealer I opted to mount a Lifeline Group 27 in the under-utilized ice bin in the back of the rig. Mounted a tray. Made a hole for a vent and put in a couple of through panel 12v terminals. It came out pretty good for less than 1/3 the cost of one OEM bracket. This gave us a little extra capacity that works for our use, plus theres room for another battery beside it later if need be. Measure your batteries, they may fit in there if youre in a hurry.

Another option is Artec Industries, they make battery mounts for offroad and marine applications. Most are for specific battery sizes but if you know your battery dimensions you can look to see if one might work.

Someone showed a steel fabricated under-mount battery box recently but I cannot recall if it was an Air Forums or a Class B Forum posting. There was a link to the sales site, and I remember noting that a drainage hole was present (which is a good thing). It appeared well-constructed.

Tronadora - since you already have modified your original under frame battery box you will want to use JayP's approach in the thread that FlyFishinRVr list above. If you don't want to wait for Airstream parts I think your only option is to take it to a local metal fab/welding shop and have them make another battery box to match the one you already have. The brackets I made were on my 2013 van with the batteries originally mounted inside. If I had to do it again I'd do what JayP did -- looks much easier. The only advantage of my more complicated brackets is it keeps the batteries totally above the body sheet metal.

Good Luck,

Are you talking about the standard Interstate battery boxes, the ones that come on a new van? I need some also in a few weeks, so I'm not happy to hear they may be backordered.

Yes, I verified with the dealer today when I picked up the MH. Jackson Center is out of stock and has them backordered from their vendor, not to arrive for almost three weeks. The Airstream Part # is AID 33830. So far no luck on Ebay or thru a Google search. Since these parts need to be modified anyway, it probably makes since to find a fabricator to just make the make the darn things from scratch.

I'll let you know if I find success during the month of August.

Mark
