2018 Interstate steering wheel

I just noticed that the 2018 steering wheel is now leather wrapped! The plastic steering wheel in the 2017 and earlier was just so cheap in my opinion. Wonder what the part number is for the new steering wheel?

Your post got me thinking, so I did a quick Google search, and came up with this:

https://www.sprinterpartsdepot.com/p...steering-wheel

Since it's leather and fake wood, I was thinking that I might be able to find one with a fake burlwood finish to match the fake burlwood finish on my Interstate's dashboard.

One of the very first mods I did was to add a Wheelskins wrap on the steering wheel of our 2007 Interstate. I've been very pleased with it. Blog post here.

I have considered wrapping with a leather steering wheel wrap kit, but it doesn't look quite like the way it should to me.

Here is the Mercedes steering wheel, my local MBZ dealer can special order it for $783. Prices may vary, another out of state dealer can order it for $675. I may pull the trigger in a month or two.

Ouch! All the more reason why I'll give the one I found at Sprinter Parts Depot (see post #2, this thread) a try when I get back from the Air Midwest Rally. It's half the price! (Provided I send them the original wheel afterwards to get my "wheel deposit" back, that is. Otherwise it's just slightly cheaper.)

That wood and leather steering wheel is not a bad deal considering it's basically custom made. I've had partial wood steering wheels like that before and have experienced the clear coat chip and flake off over time and sun exposure. I'm a fan of a well made meaty sporty leather steering wheel.

I'm not worried about sun exposure. The only time it would be exposed to sun is when I'm behind the wheel. When I'm camping I use a windshield cover for privacy. When it's stored, I use a windshield cover for burglary/theft protection. So UV exposure would be minimal.

I like the all-leather wheels, too. But the idea of a wheel that matches the dashboard also has its appeal, and for the price it's worth a try.

Save the money on the OEM wheel. Have this company redo your wheel. He has restored a few of my wheels including an original 1972 BMW 3.0CSL to factory condition. This guy is an artisan.
