2016 Interstate Grey Tank NOT dumping

New to me, 2016 Airstream Interstate. YEA! But first time to empty tanks, and black tank is a success. Grey tank is full, and will not empty. The light on the black tank will not go off, but I hear (think I hear) sounds like it is closing. But when I press toggle, cannot get light to come on grey tank, no sounds, and no dump. HELP, please. Thanks.

2016 Interstate Grey Tank NOT dumping

There is a relay in the circuit to prevent both valves from being open at same time. If the black tank light does not go out it is likely energizing the relay to prevent the gray valve from opening. If you haven't done so already try cycling the black valve a few times, that might reset the circuits. It worked once on my 2013 Interstate.

If you really need to get the gray dumped you can open the valve manually under the van by disconnecting the electric actuator.

Good luck,

Chances are there is toilet paper blocking the valve from shutting completely. This has happened a couple of times with our AI. The first time I crawled under the van and disconnected the rod that opens and closes the valve, and then pulled and pushed the valve closed by hand repeatedly until I felt the valve close completely. Hooked everything up and everything was good to go. The next time it happened, I closed the valve as far is would go with the switch, then went inside and flushed the toilet to add 3-4 gallons of water to the black tank. Went outside and opened the valve using the switch, and the obstruction cleared (flushed out) and the valve closed like it is supposed to. Now, each time I empty the blank tank, I add a few gallons of water before opening the valve. So far, no more problems with toilet paper hanging up in the valve.

Good tip Aircruiser - adding a few gallons of water to black tank would sure help clear an obstruction.

On every clean up of the black tank, I have my wife hold down the flush lever for a good minute and it does a great job of getting the last bit of gunk out. Water goes from brown color to nearly white during that time. So good practice regardless.

Since you have a wet bath with a handheld shower nozzle, you have an even more effective option. Hold the toilet open with your foot, and spray HOT water into the toilet. Hot water softens the solids so the macerator pump can chew them up more easily, and you've got a faster flow through the shower head than through the toilet valve, so you can fill the black tank faster while rinsing the tank.

It works!

I took a combination of all the suggestions.
I put several gallons of water in the black tank, and I also put a couple of gallons of hot water in.
When I went to dump, (we were at a state park), I toggled back and forth several times. Long enough to hear the system opening and closing. The light finally went off. Yea! And I emptied the grey tank which took forever since it was full to the top!
Would never have been successful without all your helpful suggestions.

Thank you so very much!
